I think everyone on earth is dreaming that they can get rid of Lucic but there's just no chance Ottawa takes on maybe the leagues worst contract for a second rounder.

Not a hope Ottawa takes that. Eugene Melnyk hates paying for good players, he sure as hell won't pay for a dud like Lucic.

I'm quite looking forward to next spring when the Oilers fans are wondering whether Alexis Lafreniere will finally be THE GUY to turn around that franchise.

If you're willing to retain half of Lucic's salary, just buy him out. It won't cost you any more than that and you could keep the 2nd.

It costs a lot more then that actually, 5.6M in 2nd and 4th year

I am on the side on holding him if he can't be moved easily as the buyout only helps for 1 year. Maybe will get lucky and get free buyout after CBA. Buyout gives 2.4M next year if thats not in dire need then no point

You guys are complaining about one trade. how about look at the rest of the roster? We could still get the same roster if I had just bought out Lucic. Really you guys are clamoring about peanuts.

Generally speaking, when a player is told he is going to be bought out but can get a little more if he accepts the trade, he will take that. The Oilers would give him a small "consulting fee" that would kick in once the buyout happens.
