Look at the contract though. Term and years. Going to be a lot looking at him and going to have to overpay. Need a contract like that to keep more pieces. Would Carolina take straight swap?

Of course Carolina would. They're winning that deal. Why trade Nylander who has considerable more upside when a package like Kapanen, a 2nd and a prospect can get Pesce? Keep Nylander. Don't sell low on him because he had a rough 5 months after missing 3 months.. his offensive upside is much greater than Pesce's defensive upside

Something called cap! And can keep kap and Johansson.. Would prefer to keep nylander but this way we shore up on d with a good long term contract. Think you may be underestimating what it will take to get pesce. Personally would like Hamilton but once again need roster room

It's very possible to keep Nylander and get Pesce whole staying under the cap. Just have to move Zaitsev for it to happen

Pesce is still a target. Though if you wanted a cheaper cost at getting one, Colin Miller from Vegas would be a good fit. They're in worse cap hell than Toronto and wouldn't cost that much to relieve them of cap. Josh Manson from Anaheim would probably be another target. Damon Severson is an option that isn't talked about much. Might cost a bit higher price but he has term on his deal as well. A really cheap option could be Dylan Demelo from Ottawa as a 3rd pairing guy. Could also move Zaitsev in that deal for the cap relief. But there are definitely more options than people think
