Explain why you trade one of the top scoring LW in the league and a perennial 20 goal scorer for a massively overpaid dud of an offensive defenseman.

Marchand is usually around 20-25 goals. His 37 last year was an outlier compared to his career numbers. With the promise that Vatrano showed last year (44 goals between the AHL & NHL), its reasonable to assume he may be able to pick up the slack in that production. I wouldn't consider Green a massively overpaid dud of a dman. He is good for 40 points a year, skates really well, and is big, which isn't easy to find. He's also a right shot, which the Bruins need.

The premise of this roster, is to bring in puck moving dman, and get a return for Marchand, because if Vatrano and Vesey are on the roster and pan out the way they could, then the Bruins will need to let Marchand walk next year. If Marchand could yield a better dman than Green, then go get him.

I think where the $ needs to spent is on C and puck moving D. With good center's and dman that can move the puck, Vatrano & Vesey should be able to pick up 20-25 goals each.

BBB22: Let me paraphrase what moorese7en said so politely. Even if Marchand leaves next year as a UFA, why the @@@@ do you want Greene on your team for two years at 6m? Spend the new found money more wisely.

As I said in my post....if you can find a better dman in a deal for Marchand - then do it.

Green rolls out of bed and gets 40 points a year. Not many guys of his skill set. But if you can get a better deal - then absolutely do it. I don't think Marchand should be untouchable this year though. Taking a risk with a younger guy at LW may pay off. The overall results can't get any worse for the B's.

Why would we trade Marchand for a guy we could have signed last year for free. If we didn't sign Belesky and traded Smith for futures (which would have been way smarter than Jimmy) we could have afforded Green. My question is why do you think Green would do any better here than Dennis Wideman did. They are basically the same guy.

Green and Wideman are not comparable. Green is far better than Wideman. Wideman can barely skate.

What the Bruins did, or didn't do, last year should not serve as motivation as to what they do this off-season. Like I've said three times already - if you can get a better return for Marchand, then they should at least entertain it. A trade for Marchand should not be off the table. I think teams would give up something significant for him. Detroit came to mind as they may lose Datsyuk for nothing to the KHL. If that happens, I would imagine they would be looking for an offensive guy and the Bruins are looking for puck movers. And in this trade Detroit would save $1.5 mill on the cap for next year which would be desirable to them as they have Datsyuk's $7.5 mill sitting there doing nothing for them. Perhaps adding an extra piece in the mix would equal out the value. Just an idea.

I do't think you know Mike Green very well. Earlier you stated Mike Green rolls out of bed getting 40 points, I guess hes slept for 5 of the last 6 years then.
