Risto and Kakko

Description
I am just wondering whether you draft Kakko with #1 or #2 OA at the draft. We need a future C, but Kakko is the real deal.

I also want feedback on a Risto trade. I think it would work out for both team. Kase can replace Pominville and Henrique provides more C depth behind Eichel and, eventually, Casey Mittelstadt. Meanwhile, ANA gets a RHD with a big shot for the PP.

Im hearing that the fact Hughes was a centre gave him an advantage to go at 1 but ive seen some mocks with kakko at 1. I hear the fact that Kakko could play transition to centre has teams interested taking him at 1

Definitely don't want henrique because of his age. He'll be 30 and getting paid for 5 more years. Don't need another okposo. Kase is intriguing though.

Terrible trade for BUF, don't think they would make that deal even they weren't sending a 2nd along with Risto.....not sure how you think that would work. Seems like a real homer trade to me

I don't know. Hughes is still very talented. I think the question is whether he'll be able to play C at the NHL level. His size is an issue in that sense. Kakko just looks legit to me. Potentially another Teemu Selanne for us (in as much as they are both Fins and very good players - not expecting Kakko to have the same level of career as Teemu).

Fair enough. In defense of Henrique, he'd make for an excellent 3C. He's a 2-way C who consistently produces with limited minutes and by "produces" I mean he scores goals. I understand your concerns though. He's about to get (slightly) overpaid, and his game is only going to go one way as he ages. With that said, what would the add be to Kase for Risto?

Well, I did give my reasoning in the description. Maybe Henrique isn't of interest, but Kase is an explosive young talent with a very bright future. Am I mistaken in thinking that BUF fans had soured on Risto.

Ok, but we are stacked on the RW. Also, in this scenario, we draft Kakko. And even if we don't, we'd still have Sprong, Terry, Silfverberg and Perry to play RW.

I have to admit, I find your response very strange considering you've even posted Armchair GMs yourself were you move Sprong because there is no place for him on the RW.

As much as I like Sprong he has downside because of his defensive play, he can only play offense, Kase is a well rounded player who can play on the PK. Also another thing is that we have started playing Silfvy sometimes on the left wing so maybe to Murray that opens a spot on the RW and Perry played the other night on left wing also not saying he's gonna be LW but Murray is trying stuff out. I love Sprong, the dudes a beast but I think he will be the one moved this offseason. Since he is playing 10 minutes a game and had been getting scratched.

I guess I disagree. I think Sprong’s recent play has secured him a position for now. He may only be playing 10 mins a night, but he’s scoring goals and we need goal scorers, especially at the depth positions. My other concern in moving Sprong is that we walk away with very little after giving up another D-man. I really don’t want to see Petersson become a 3rd round pick and I’d be disappointed if we gave up on Sprong so early. He’s got ability, but he is still very raw. I’d like at least 1 season with him before we decide he’s the odd man out. However, I assume you don’t agree.

I'm biased since i love Kase, dudes a burst of energy, plays every shift harder than his last, great defensively and can be a 20-30 goal scorer. I think Sprong might be packaged with another player for a D man but who knows.

I think Kase is great. He's explosive, fast, works hard, his defence is ok, but he's on what? his 3rd big concussion. If he continues to get injured like this, he'll never reach his potential. I don't mind taking that risk, but, if moving him brings in a player of need i.e. a big, top 4 RHD with a power shot on the PP, I think I'd be happy to move him and assume that everything will eventually click with Sprong.

I think the Sabres would do the trade without Henrique, and a 4th instead of a second.
