I think the Pesce deal is wishful thinking and Khaira contract will be a little higher, the other moves I can buy, not sure the Oilers are in a position to spend 10.5 Million on goalies though.

I agree, they are not in a position to spend $10.5M on goalies... maybe they can convince Koskinen to go back to the KHL. Huge mistake signing him to that contract.
What else would be needed in the Pesce deal? EDM is pretty bare in prospects and picks...

Why do the canes or sens make these trades?

Chaisson and Varlomov both grossly overpaid.

The trade is interesting, but you’d need the hurricanes to be sold on the JP-Aho chemistry to get the conversation started

The way I was looking at it:
-Canes are looking for a punch up front and willing to trade part of their tremendous D to get it
-Sens are losing for the next 2-3 seasons and need help on the back end as a stop gap. Russel would help their young D and his actual salary is lower than his cap hit

I did have a hard time finding a comparable to Chiasson...
But for Varlamov I did put him just under Holtby, Hellebuyck, Gibson, Rask...
