Bura won't even get a QO to begin with. If he does he would be stupid not to take it

I don't think most people understand how offer sheets work. First the player would actually have to sign it and accept the contract and the possibility of going to whatever team offered the offer sheet. After that IF the player signed one the team has the chance to match the offer. There's a reason this stuff never happens. Maybe 3 of those guys actually receive an offer sheet. and MAYBE MAX 1 actually signs it, and even then their team likely just matches it anyways. All this offer sheet talk is ridiculous. Last time one happened was like 5 years ago. This is dumb.

Only way aston reese gets offer sheeted and pens don't match is if it's 2+ million. Any team willing to compensate pens a 2nd round pick for a 24 y/o 3rd liner with 60 NHL games played would be a welcomed sight by Pens and a huge over payment to pay a guy who hasn't even played a full season 3rd line UFA salary.

Pit is a team that will have to move players if any RFA accepts a offer sheet 16 contracts at 79M 2m is a 3rd pick

Technically, the first step is that the player doesn't sign a qualifying offer. The deadline for QO's is draft day IIRC, so that means that the player would have to go through most of June with no progress on a deal. Seeing as the guys at risk of being-offer sheeted are probably the most important guys to lock down, I'd expect the teams to be smart enough to get the deals done before the OS possibility even arrives. The timing alone will reduce the total number of offer sheet possibilities pretty drastically, the way I see it.

And if the counter-example is Nylander, I absolutely believe that someone should have offer-sheeted him around the time when training camp started. Would TOR match 7.5 x 5? Maybe, but he was easily worth the 1st, 2nd, 3rd compensatory picks at that contract.

Pits has to move players anyhow, also 2.02 mill is a 2nd, anything over that pens wouldn't match, anything under that they would

On as side note, I hope someone here can remember who said this but a sportscaster said that when they were a GM they put together and offer sheet and it took about 3-4 weeks of all the head office staff working together and 50K to 75k in legal fees to get an offer sheet together

this is a new era in the NHL and some teams are up against the cap Pit, St L, Tor Vegas and Wpg I can see teams now use a offer sheet as a tool to try and cripple a team lets look at both G ST.L 12@61M or Cal 15 players 66M in contracts so say a team offers a 6M avv contract that can cripple a team and IMO i can see it happening this year

Important thing to remember here too is that most teams that have enough cap space to offer a reasonable offersheet to a star player (point, marner, trouba, etc) are either one or more of:

1) teams that wont spend up to the cap to begin with
2) bad teams that have cap room because they suck, (so why would anyone sign there)
3) teams that have there own young guys they will need cap space to sign in a year or two

Like how many NHL teams have the cap room to offersheet one of these guys reasonably? maybe 10? and of those 10 how many are teams that owners are willing to spend to the cap? maybe 4? and of those 4 how many are teams that these players would actually want to sign with? maybe 2? and of those teams how many actually want the players considering all the picks they have to give up? maybe 1?

Like it's just simply not happening.

None of those players getting offer sheeted is going to cripple anyone. None of those guys are getting offer sheeted any significant amount of money. What's someone gonna offersheet Donato at that would "cripple" the wild? 2.5 mil? 3 mil? Oooooo Crippled!! What a laugh. Karlsson, 7 mil? Not like Vegas wouldn't match that. Trouba 7 mil? give WPG 2 firsts go ahead. ITS NOT HAPPENING.

Offer sheets DO NOT HAPPEN because GMs do not want to shoot themselves in the foot (wallet) by spiking salaries! Overpay one, overpay them all. Just like any other business. End of story!
