Description
Mark Stone was a guy I really wanted, thought he would be the ideal Hossa replacement but that dream is now dead.

The Islanders do however have some intriguing UFA's. Lee is a solid two-way/power forward, similar to Stone. And Eberle is a sniper, similar to Panarin. Neither are as good but are both considerably cheaper. Add in Filppula as our Brad Richards 2.0 from 2015 and this could be a very deep forward group and that can hopefully do a better job at concealing the mess that is our defense until Boqvist and Jokiharju really come into their own. Not exactly sure what these Islanders will get in free agency but I think we could get all 3 and still have a good amount of cap space, especially heading into 20-21 to resign Debrincat/Strome

Doesn't matter where they go. I think each of them can fetch at least a third round pick individually so we could recoup some early/mid-round picks by moving on from these guys.

Only person we should go after now is Dzingel.

I’m not sure if trying to re create past championship teams is the right idea. The game has changed since 2015. Hossa and Richards were definitely both big parts of that team and finding player like them isn’t going to hurt the team, but adding players that are in the back half of their career isn’t the right way to do it. Build through the draft, get younger and faster.

I think adding a pair of 28-year olds in Lee and Eberle will definitely help a lot more than they'll hurt us. I doubt either of them will command a ton of money and we could use at least another veteran forward. Filppula is just another 1 year stop gap until guys like Barret or Kurashev can be your 3C. Then a top 9 could look like Lee-Toews-Saad, DeBrincat-Strome-Kane, Eberle-Barrett-Kahun and then hopefully draft and develop a scoring forward to replace Eberle if he signs like a 2/3 year deal. Defense is where we need to get younger and faster and we hopefully already have those pieces in place.

The Stone dream is not dead. That trade with Vegas is purely a rental.

Lee and Eberle are both B/B+ players. One of them; okay. Two of them completely unnecessary. Lee will be 29 at the time of signing making him 36 years old on a 7 year deal...ouch. Dzingel would be a target over either of them and of course as well as Panarin or Stone. All of them are still UFA's at season's end. Until any of them sign extensions, it's an open market for them.

Mitchell arguably is the most ready defensive prospect, most would say he is more ready then Boqvist when you compare the two and who is defensively responsible. Carlsson in the AHL will likely get a shot as well as I'm not sure Dahlstrom is that much of an upgrade. Between Barratt, Kurashev, Hagel and Enwistle one of them will most likely play. Perlini has done ZERO to earn a dollar more then he makes today, his career in the NHL is on the brink of collapsing so there is money to be saved on his deal.
