I would do the Bruins trade in a heartbeat but would not even entertain the Habs one.

Yeah the more I look at this the more I think I undervalued nurse. What do you think would get this deal done for nurse?

Maybe if the Bruins were in a rebuild they'd entertain that, but they're not... so they wouldn't.

To get either I would think it would start with a first round and then add Josh Brook or Ryan Poeling

Edmonton needs top six wingers, so we start there. Edmonton hasn’t done very well with one-for-one trades involving significant pieces, so I’d push for a bit more coming back to the Oilers. Depending on the quality of the scoring winger offered, Edmonton should ask for a grade A prospect and a high draft pick, or a young defenseman who is a bit behind Nurse on the developmental spectrum (preferably a left-handed player who can compete with Jones next year). Dumping Spooner would be nice, but I don’t think it makes sense to deminish the return for Nurse in order to accomplish that.

Take on the full value of Lucic’s contract though, and maybe it’s worth considering.

This past summer, looking at edmonton's cap situation it was obvious they were going to be in trouble. I said MTL should offer sheet Nurse for 2 years @ $4M. They would only have to give up a 2nd to get Nurse. Instead the Oilers signed him for 2 years @ $3.2M.

I think if you swap out fleury for brook than the rest of the deal stays the same. Edm will go into the offseason with a descent amount of cap space, an extra 2nd and a high end defensive prospect.

Lucic's contract is pure poison, only way to move him is trade him for a guy like backes to a team he is willing to go to like boston, hence the first trade.

That may be a fair trade but I think the oilers are way too high on Nurse to trade him unless it completely blows them away.

You may be right, but if I'm edm klefbom is the guy I build my defence around making nurse somewhat expendable.

That is very true.

It is also very true that regardless of how Nurse ranks among defensemen accross the league, he fits into the Oilers top 3, and their best prospects are not ready to replace him. He also happens to be one of McDavid’s buddies, and his age fits perfectly with the core of the team. Only way I see Montreal obtaining Darnell Nurse in a trade is if they offer a package that Habs fans are sure to consider an over-payment.

Yeah you're probably right, habs biggest need is a ld to play with petry but I wouldn't want them to sell the farm to get it.
