We'd have to get a 2nd or better to take Hanzal on. He's hurt so much it's not even known if he'll be available in the next years. Nielsen contract isn't that bad that we would have to dump him for nothing. Plus the Wings won't have a for sure, competent 2nd-3rd line center for next year.

Also I love Howard to CGY, but Kronner will retire as a wing at the end of the year. He's already got his cup and should end as a life-long wing.

In general, I think the Wings need an open spot or two for next year on D, as Hronek will be full time in the NHL, and its possible one of Sulak, Hicketts, or maybe even Saarijarvi will be ready. So it'd probably be advantageous to trade Pysyk in the off-season unless he really impresses the Wings.

I agree completely.
Edmonton :
I would trade a 1st for Nyquist. Spooner isn't good and Sekera is also on the IR and has yet to play a game in the NHL this season. I don't see Nyquist waiving for Edmonton.
Detroit is stuck Ericsson with cap hit no one wants him. He only has one year left on his contract and the possibility that he retires with Kronwall, keep your fingers crossed. I would happily eat his cap hit to free up a roster spot for someone like Hronek who should be playing instead of him.
With De La Rose we picked him up off waivers and he's role player. I don't see him having much value.

Jamie McGinn is out indefinitely with a bad back. Hasn't played in the NHL this season and I'd keep Daley over Pysyk.
Helm and Daley don't have horrible contracts but both of their contracts are high enough that most teams wouldn't want them. Maybe when they're in the last season of their contracts.

Hanzal had spine surgery end of last season. He has played only 7 games since the surgery and none since Dec. 23rd.
There is no time table for his return and the fact that he's 31and He might never play in the NHL again.
Neilson also has a contract that pays him more than he's worth.
This is where I realized the point of this trade. But for it to work Dallas has to make the playoffs they are 3rd in their division but the bottom of their division is only 6pts away and the bottom of their conference is just 10pts back. Dallas has to be on his 10 team list or he has to waive to go to dallas.

I think Kronwall is going to retire at the end of the season maybe he wants one more shot at the cup maybe he doesn't. I have no idea. Either
way Detroit wants a 1st and would take Smith to Calgary some cap space. I also retain some of Howards salary if needed.

Dude Edmonton isn't making the playoffs? And no way will either Nyquist or Ericsson waive for the dumpster fire of a team.

ok I suppose if hanzel called it quits and we can ltir him then I guess you have to think of it. nielson is overpaid by like 1 million dollars and he has multiple years left but he isn't exactly dragging the team down like ericsson or abbys never ending 4.5 million contract. its not one or 2 bad deals its the multitude of them. I think neison is a usable piece hes just miscast as a 2nd line center at this point.

Not with a 35+ contract he only assistance you can get is If the player is still in the minors moving in to the second season you can ask the league and up to $100,000 in cap relief. It's also why you can't a 35+ contract longer than 2 years. You can call it the Detroit Red Wings clause before the salary cap they would back load the contract player still gets he money after retirement but the contract comes of the books for hockey operation purposes. I think it was 1996-97 cup run the Wings didn't break even till 2nd or 3rd home game against the Aves.
