What I think is Marner worth and what I see as realistic team next season

Description
His direct comparable in my honest opinion is something above Leon Draisaitl as for contract extension (McDavid and Draisaitl.... Matthews and Marner, you see the point). So.. Draisaitl is a centerman which adds value slightly above Marner BUT he puts up less points which puts him behind Marners value. You may or may not agree with that, its how I see it. Draisaitl got 11.33% of 75mil cap space. I believe Mitch should get 12.5% of 83mil cap space. Matthews gets 14% and Tavares 13.25% of that cap space. Marner should get slightly lower number but also an important one above Draisaitl as he is better difference maker, better point producer and more of an impact player but not a centerman which is a thing that runs for Draisaitl. Also I believe Mitch would be worth 12.5% of cap space at time of signing if he signs for 6yrs (6yrs not to have them sign in one offseason). That would bring his next contract to 6x10.375. Give or take 100k-200k dollars and thats his likely next contract. Is this reasoning good or not? I believe its fair. (adding for value of superstitions, he would get 10.416x6 deal (drafted 4th overall and wears 16 on jersey)

Also use Hyman-Kadri-Kapanen line against opposite 1st lines. Kadri in that role was back to back 32 goal scorer with lesser wingers than Kapanen and Hyman.

Defence would be very young but I believe they would do fine with older veteran D partners. Also Mueller-Ozhiganov would be very good shutdown defensive pairing. If Liljegren is bad with Muzzin and needs lesser minutes or back to AHL, no problem. Rosen in with Mueller, Dermott-Ozhiganov on 2nd pairing and Muzzin-Rielly and D stays solid..

But main thing of this post is extension of Marner. What do you think?

Well......
A lot of your re-signing player will not want to take a decreased salary.....

NJ wouldn’t touch Zaitsev....even for just a 7th....Toronto would have to pay for any team to take that contract.

Lindholm and Ozhiganov are gone with out a decent raise.

Zaitsev trade is fair. Assumped cap dump for 7th and scratched Dman on one of the worst teams in the league. Also Kapanens contract is balanced between what Kaše and Reinhart got (he is better than Kaše but has not as high ceiling as Reinhart) thats why I believe it would be this, also its his first successful season so I want to make sure for him that he gets chance to prove himself and make even more money afterwards. Its better for him honestly.

I gave them what they are worth. Kapanen is worth that and Johnsson is worth that as well. Maybe both slightly more but thats why we have an option to not resign Ozhiganov and sign cheaper player for 3rd pairing minutes or 7th-8th D role worth league minimum and it would give us room to get more to each of them so if we stretch it out to its max with Ozhiganov gone we would be able to get Kapanen at 3.75 and Johnsson at 2.5 or Kappy at 3.5 and Johnsson at 2.75mil with 700k D signing.

I dont disagree but he doesnt suck, he is misused so bad its hurting my eyes and likely if he is traded its going to be a steal for another team BUT he is surely misused and his value is low thats why I believe that is the value for his services, maybe add a 5th-6th rounder in NJ he would have better opportunity. He makes 4.5 which in Devils case is nothing because they have worse players with higher cap hits. I believe he would be upgrade for NJ.

If Kapanen gets offersheeted than goodbye. If I was doing as much of a tweaking as possible I can get him signed for 3.75-4 but I believe that would be overpayment at current time. I might sound ridiculous in few years with that but I dont believe he is worth that much right now. Surely an offersheet for him might become realistic but I dont believe Toronto matches if he signs that offersheet. Something between Kaše and Reinhart would look realistic imo. But I see offersheet happening.. he is replaceble tho.

I would put Rosen in the lineup and not worry about getting a player for zaitzev

I would want Mueller, I like him as a player and he was really underrated. he would be key to the bottom pairing imo.

Sometimes I get the feeling that Lindolm is only getting a roster spot cause Babs more or less hand picked him outta Sweeden. Can't really see how he does anything better than D. Moore as a 4 C/Lw from last year, and yet Moore is overseas, and so is Lindholm, as it were.. seems like alot of trans Atlantic travel for very little difference. Anyways, if Lindholm wants more, he's a ufa, he can go look for it. Oz is an undrafted Rfa that very well might not see another Nhl game this year. Sammy's salary seems pretty spot on if the leafs want him back.

As much as there's this palatable frenzy of anxiety about how the leafs need to lose some roster players, Id say the cupboard is still ok with Rosen (allstar ahl d, near the top of league scoring by dmen) Bracco (ppg winger in the A who seems to win everywhere he goes) Marchment (fiesty and with a set of mitts) and of course, Moore, who is probably better than some of the roster players now..

I actually like that the cap means some guys gotta go, cause, if for no other reason, it lets other guys in and we get to see what they got. All is well in leafland.. even if we might not believe it
