Bob McKenzie is predicting the cap to go up to 85 mill, which is great for the Leafs, and should add 1.5 mill to your cap space. I'd like to see Hainsey back for 1.5 mill for one more year of development for Liljegren and Sandin. I'm predicting Brown fetches a 3rd round draft choice, maybe second if they're really lucky.

Guys on pace for 47pts. As a 22 y.o if that only costs 2.75 Id start praying to Dubas

Need a 13th forward yes, but as for the 14th right now the leafs are running 8 d-men so why not again next year

Ummm, Sam Reinhart contract? SR is much better than Kappy, so there is a top end. Remeber that Brown scored 36 points, so that is a bottom end. 2.75 for 2-3 yrs is pretty much the right value.

Scored 3 more points than kappy is on pace for + cap increase + an extra year on the term I think that contract proves the opposite of what your going for

I’m sorry you seem like a nice person but when I hear things like “I would love to see hainsey back” I have to wonder how much led paint you have consumed...

If Ozzy>hainsey add another year to that corpse and you want to pay him 500k more than Oz????

If we had any other coach in the league Hainsey would be sitting 3 out of 4 games...

Um Hainsey has 16 points and is a +27 at 20:00 minutes a night, plays alot on the penalty kill. You think you can get that from Oz 52 games into a season or from Liljegren/Sandin? If so, you have a case.

That is a testament to how well Reilly was playing... please watch hainsey he is slow and week on the puck his penalty killing was held together by zaitsev... continuously missing assignments on pk... weak in the puck. I din’t mind Him on the bottom pair but certainly would prefer to see Oz in there getting experience... next season hands down Oz over hainsey.

1st off there’s no need to be a dick about it, secondly Hainsey isn’t as bad as you are making him out to be, he has slowed down and has been played out of his depth, but on the third pair next to Dermott I am liking him in this small sample, he is a solid veteran presence who can play well against other teams bottom six fwrds

I think that you just repeated what I said (see my other post) but signing hainsey back next season is just a horrible idea... I find ozzy to be much more effecient and if zaitsev is moved this off season he may be the only RHD remaining. Babs is stubborn and he loves hainsey but ozhiganov needs to get games in if we are going to use him next season. I found that he was playing hainsey off the rink for the last 10-12 games. I wouldn’t mind taking hainsey back next season on 1m or less to sit in the press box and fill in. Short of that and I am just face palming... it aggravates me because it is actually a possibility, a grim one.

I’m just agreeing that he isn’t a top pair D-Man, whereas you are ripping him apart and saying he should be a 7th d-man

Your error is in thinking all that matters is points, and for one season.

Well if we are talking about play outside of points I think kappy is even better than reinhart, and as for the one season thing I am already arguing with Jamiepo in another thread about that, I think that Since it is a bridge contract you are already limiting your risk so if this is a fluke year it’s a good thing you signed him short term, I do think it matters to some extent and that’s why even with the extra year he comes in at a smaller cap % than reinhart, but unless it’s a one year deal I can’t possibly see 2.75 mil, but idk why I’m arguing this cause I’d obviously prefer to see his caphit be as low as possible, I just don’t think it will be

I’m just saying we should let him go after this season or at best bring him in as a 7th D vet guy, but you can’t do that with Babs he will use the piss out of him. Hell I’m surprised Babs didn’t strap the pads on him when Andersen and sparks went down...

No issues with going worst case but remember if you sign him at that rate you can’t go back... let’s say we go worse case with that... he comes out next season and plays like a pile and put up 20 points... now you’re stuck with a 3.75m 4th liner on a cap strapped team. Consistency plays a huge role in contract negotiation.

Just take a look at Karlsson 43 goals got him a 1 year 5.25m contract... this season 16 goals and that’s after he finally got his **** together. Imagine if he ends this season with 45 points... you can’t pay him less than 5.25m and you lose him to free agency. And I thought that was a smart hedged bet they made.

I think the answer to this is less term less money. I think that is the issue with it seeming like an overpayment. I don’t think it is far off maybe 3x3m but I’m sure kappy would rather have 1x2.25m or 2x2.75m

To be fair none of us know what the contract will be and you could very well be right, but I would be pretty upset if we end up paying out a stiff contract like that.
