Bob McKenzie reporting that the leafs are inquiring about Brett Pesce and the ask is Kapanen/Johnsson ++

I'm a Johnsson fan, but a top 4 RHD with term is much more valuable.

Not sure if my trade has enough value going to CAR, so let me know what you would add. Maybe Johnsson, Bracco, 2019 2nd ??

If this happened would you trade Hainsey/Zaitsev? or keep both for playoff depth?

BTW I'm digging this Brown Kadri Nylander line. Setup is similar to Hyman Tavares Marner (just not quite as good)

I like the value and fit for both sides but the hurricanes are really playing well and are actually close to a playoff spot so who knows if they want to hang on to Pesce. Id think because they have guys like Hayden Fleury as their 7th D they can afford to do this without hurting their team too much in the now and helping them in the future

It'll be Zaitsev going to Carolina anyway you look at it. Toronto has to send him for cap reasons. It's probably gonna be Kapanen, Zaitsev, plus whatever picks get the deal done for Pesce plus maybe a lower tier prospect or pick.
Carolina has been high on Kapanen for awhile with his dad's connection to there, and Toronto has more depth at RW than they do at LW. Carolina needs a top 6 guy and Kapanen has more potential than Johnsson. Seems to be a better fit for Kapanen than Johnsson.

A Pesce trade seems like it's more likely to happen during the offseason since the Leafs have a lot of chemistry with Kapanen and Johnsson in their offense this year. In all likely hood they just pick up a depth defenseman like Lovejoy and leave the big trades for the offseason.

Probably why a deal hasn't been done yet - Canes aren't going to be taking Zaitsev back.

Pesce for
Kapanen + 2019 2nd (or)
Johnsson + Bracco + 2019 2nd
