Kapanen might be able to work, might have to offer more.

Pettersson would definitely be matched, plus we don't need him, we have about 346 other LHD that can play there.

penguins if they don't trade maatta will have 4.4 million to sign Pettersson zar RIIKOLA wilson and Blueger. even trading him wouldn't make enough cap assuming they all get a sizable raise of 1m-2.5m

and idk if tml can afford him but anything higher would cost us 1st and a 3rd

this also was just an example of how easy it would be to cherry pick teams solid players for extremely cheap

It's also unlikely Pettersson signs it. He might want to do a shorter term deal so he can make more sooner.

But yeah I know what you mean. I wish more people offer sheeted people! Sounds like some might try Marner or Matthews this offseason.

Go to 4.06m x 5 and leafs just may take the compensation. I think at 4m to get kappy locked up for 5 years is worth moving a different player.

I'd wager TO matches until they get a 1st rounded for compensation. So you'd have to go that high.

I would say that's only true if both Matthews and marner are signed. If they match this without knowing what those guys will cost, they could be in trouble

even if they do it makes it hard to resign other key guys....

I imagine Kapanen won't be interested in signing an offer sheet until those guys are signed. He'll need to know the cap situation before he gets heavy into negotiations. Otherwise he could handcuff himself.

They would match it and move out Zaitsev or something. He's worth keeping over a 2nd rounder. A 1st and all bets are off.

Especially if both got offered 4 million deals for like 4-5 years. The Leafs absolutely cannot afford that. I’d wager that Puljujarvi is a prime offer sheet candidate too.

Not Puli, he hasn't done enough to warrant taking a run at him. Johnsson could get obtained for less though. If he gets 3+ million on an offer sheet I bet he leaves.

I’ll bet there’s a team that would take a risk and offer sheet him. If the Leafs won’t match three million, I’ll days that the odds are that Johnsson gets an offer sheet this summer. A second is a good price for a 40 point winger. Especially one that’ll sign for 2 million less than Ferland.
