Description
So this lineup ****s the bed yet again. Half the team is playing poorly... maybe it's time for a change?
Even Tavares can't transform Hyman into a top line player. Take away his 4 empty net goals. Take away the one Marner put in off his hand. Take away the one that hit the goalie in the chest, bounced off his defenseman and into his own net, on the pk, and Hyman has 2 goals and a dozen points, through 50 games, on the top line. He isn't Tomas Holmstrom. For **** sakes move on.

Babs isn't perfect but he's not at all what you say here. He does for sure adapt and change, he does have players he likes more than others but it mainly because their compete level is where it should be. The #1 issue with this squad is they don't have a high enough compete level all the time. They play like winning is just going to happen and give 75% effort. Sure Babs deserves some blame for that but really if this team gets better at playing hard. They'll be much better.

oh, I agree with this. Consistency of effort is definately an issue, and that is both on the players and the coaching staff - that's what the coaches are there for, to get the best out of the players.

I'm not trying to pin everything on Babcock, just pointing out that he holds responsibility for the outcome as well. He's not a passive bystander in the stands making comments on how the game went. The double standard does bug me though..

He knows what his job is and I think it's agreeable that when the team plays with full intensity and effort they are a dominant team. They just don't do it all game every game. That is the difference between TO and Tampa. I think TO as they are can be a lot better and it's all about giving effort.

I agree with this. But there is more to it I think. Having a look at that power play last nigth vs how they stormed out of the gate at the begining of the year on the PP is all I need to see to understand that the coaching staff needs to make some changes to their approach. The same agrument could be made for our breakouts, and the stretch pass when teams play a trap on us and effectively shut us down., But that could turn itno a long post..

It's not my intention to place all the blame on Babs, that doesn't and shouldn't hold.. but Hazard just made an interesting post in this thread, and I agree with him. I don't know if babs is ultimately the guy to get the Leafs the cup. He could be. But I also wouldn't be surprised to see Keefe behind the bench someday if Babs can't get this team to the next level

They also better fix their weak pathetic Powerplay soon because its been steadily declining. They were top 5 in the league to start the season and now their 13th in PP%. Through games 41-50 they rank 28th on the PP and Babcock said he was gonna change it up but they did not practice the PP. Id say they should spend an entire practice working on it because man it is has been painful to watch lately.

You think Rielly is light years behind Gardiner with his defensive awareness? Alright you have zero credibility now my friend. Gardiner is caught watching the puck every game. He's the most absent defender in his own zone but makes up for it with his puck moving skills that can mask much of his faults.

Rielly is a #1 defenceman who is not only awesome offensively but he holds his own when playing against top forwards. He's not a shut down d but he's good defensively.

Here is a good read on the topic.

There is no bigger fan boy of Gardiner than Pension Plan Puppets. Good guys and decent writers but I get the sense that they are fans and not really hockey people.

They tend to put too much value in analytics and ignore a lot of actual things.

It's been an issue for years. If Tampa is the league benchmark, the Leafs have several issues.

Let’s let them actually win something before they become a benchmark
