Description
In honour of the worst GM in league history, let’s count down his worst transactions with the Oilers

10. Leon Draisaitl Contract (8.5 x 8)
9. Mikko Koskiken Contract (4.5 x 3)
8. Brandon Manning Trade (He took on a 2.25 x 2 Contract for no reason)
7. Justin Schultz Trade (Cup champion Justin Schultz for a third round pick)
6. Andrej Sekera Contract (5.5 x 6)
5. Kris Russell Contract (4 x 4)
4. Eberle Trades (Eberle for Strome for Spooner who got waived, so Eberle for literally nothing)

3. Barzal Trade (2015 1st Round Pick (Calder winner Barzal) and 2015 2nd Round Pick (Mitchell Stephens) for Griffin Reinhart (Vegas minor leaguer))

2. Hall Trade (MVP Taylor Hall for Adam Larsson, might be worst trade in league history)

1. Lucic Contract (6 x 7, might be worst Contract in league history easily the worst right now)

This list does not touch on countless other bad trades contracts he’s made, such as the Kassian trade abd Contract.

I’m sorry, but did you really mean to say the Hall trade was the worst trade in league history? Edmonton has never made a worse trade?

Puljujarvi was consensus #3, that was not a bad pick. His development path was terrible but that's not all on the GM.

Yes, #16 + #33 for a 2nd pairing AHL defenseman. At least in the Hall trade Edmonton got a useful piece back.

The Sekera contract wasn't a bad one, he was full value for that money until he got injured. The injury isn't Chiarelli's fault (I can't believe I'm defending Chiarelli here!!).

1. Lucic Contract (6 x 7, might be worst Contract in league history easily the worst right now)

Kesler's is worse - more money, same term, less production, injury-prone.

Also the Eberle debacle. Nothing useful in return AND a $3.1M cap hit. This one at least has a chance at partial redemption as Spooner has a history of scoring at top-6 rates and he isn't in an age-related decline, but until then it's a worse trade than the Hall deal.

Gretzky trade was bad but we LITERALLY TRADE A LEAGUE MVP for a bottom pair defenseman.

I would rather have some guy being injured all year then have Lucic getting no points and racking up PIMs on the fourth line

Regardless, the deal has ended up horribly, he never should’ve given that old of a player six years with that kind of cap hit

You’re saying trading a guy that didn’t win MVP until after he was traded, and went from a PPG to under for two years before the trade, is worse than a guys that was hitting 160 points before and after the trade? Larsson with Greene was the best shut down d pair before the trade.

Don't forget the 2nd round pick in the 2017 draft that the Oilers had to give Boston just for hiring Chiarelli - even though PC had been fired from Boston for sucking at his job.

The Gretzky trade is definitely second place. The players and pieces the oilers acquired for more points than Gretzky ever did for the kings. It doesn’t matter when he got the mvp, he is the second best left winger in the league easily and what is the opera biggest need right now? Wingers!!! Taylor Hall is so fast and skilled the fact that we got a slow, defensive dman for him who, if you watched the past three games, is absolutely TERRIBLE at defense. For example in the Calgary game, a 5-2 loss Larsson was on for four goals against, abd two he was directly responsible for. He is absolute crap.

Kesler's production when healthy is FAR below Lucic's. And again, the Sekera injury is not Chiarelli's fault. Sometimes it turns out that way, the GM has literally ZERO control over if a player gets injured. If McDavid sustains a career-ending injury, do you fire the GM for signing that contract? That's just stupid.

Yeah, I hate the Hall trade as much as the next guy, but his boxcars in his last two EDM seasons weren't MVP-worthy:

53, 14-24-38
82, 26-39-65

His first season in NJ wasn't phenomenal either:

72, 20-33-53

Great player, an uneven trade from the moment it was announced made worse by Hall winning MVP in his second year with the new team - but not the worst trade Chiarelli has made and not even close to the worst all-time.

You’re comparing the point production of 3 guys vs 1 lol as far as Larsson goes, it seems like defense is always a problem there, so maybe it’s the system? Hard to find consistency when you have 3 coaches in 4 years
