Gonna have to give to get rid of Zaitsev. Would rather play Sbisa over him. Throw in a first and another pick and maybe the Islanders think about. We don't need more dead contracts sitting around.

Lou signed zaitzev to that contract, I don't think the leafs would have to pay him to take zaitzev, maybe for free but not a payment. Also if a guy like Lou valued zaitzev enough to give him that contract, and a guy like babs values zaitzev as much as he does, it stands to reason someone else around the league would too would it not?

He was a different player when he signed that contract. A young defenseman coming off a 35 point season. Now 27 with 3 points in 40 games, he isn't the same player. We already have to find a spot for Hickey when he comes back. Zaitsev and the Islanders just aren't fit, no matter who gave him the contract.

Fine we keep him and no trade for Russel

Decent ideas. How I would change this approach...

-Trade Brown for Benning straight up
-Don't sign Ferland (I like him, but leafs can't afford him)
-increase salaries of Johnsson, Matthews, Marner, Kapanen by 1 million
-promote Grundstrom/Bracco or sign a 4th line checker

Im not a huge fan of Benn, but right kind of guy (If we could get Stralman that would be brilliant)
