Yeah, Matthews is such a great player but this team is really solid even without him. They might not draft another Matthews-calibre player but they might draft 4 quality players with those picks. Maybe Karlsson gets a bit more, but even then the team could still work.

I find a 73 PP/82 over the past two years hard to call almost nothing.

Nothing in 2 years? Even after his surgery last year he was still producing and he has finally hit his stride this season on a 14 game point streak. He is a multiple Norris winner and will be asking for Doughty money. Plus $9 million isnt including taxes which screw over every Canadian team

The point that I was really trying to make is that the leafs have lots of money to spend on upgrading defense and still have a good forward lineup if Matthews is let go on a high offer sheet.
