If I am playing the role of Ottawa's GM I'd be asking for Maksimov, Bouchard and the unprotected 1st. That might seem rich but for sure there'd be better offers on the table for Mark Stone than the one you made, especially from teams that are more confident they can get an extension worked out.

I would give up more if Stone agreed to re-sign here beforehand.

I'm not sure many other teams would beat this offer. They might give up better prospects, but I think Dorion would be very tempted by the prospect of a top-10 1st, which they don't have this year.

It wouldn't take MANY other teams to beat that offer, just one team would do.

So a mid round 1st, a 3rd pairing dman and a bust for one of the best 2 way forwards in the game? I understand him not being signed but it shouldn't matter.

I don't know, but if Ottawa IS moving him at the deadline you can be sure EVERY team in contention will want him, not just because he's a top tier 2-way player, but because they'd hate to see the team they might meet in the first round add him to THEIR roster. And the addition of Stone would likely get your team into the playoffs so your 1st round pick isn't likely to be top 10. I could see a team like Calgary offering Mark Jankowski, Rasmus Anderson, a 1st and a 4th. Or Washington might offer Riley Sutter, Alex Alexeyev and a 2020 1st rounder just to be sure they make it to the dance again before Ovie hangs them up. Once the bidding starts your offer will quickly be pushed off the table.
