Description
Defence - We're obviously going to lose Gardiner but I believe Dermott can fill his place in the top four. Oz will continue to get better as he adjusts to the smaller rink and should stay with Dermott. I chose engelland as a cheaper version of Ron hainsey for the bottom pairing but it could be any vet to help rosen. Zaitsev is not my favourite choice on the top pairing but unless we can unload him we're kind of stuck. And I don't feel he's as bad as people seem to think.

Offence - I feel that those are about the right numbers for Matthews and Marner but may be a little higher. Kap and Johnson will hopefully take bridge deals otherwise we're losing someone else. My thoughts are brown or kapanen will be going if they need more cap space.

It'd be nice to get another top pairing defenceman but until Marleau goes it's just not possible. And for everyone trading Marleau, he's not going anywhere and I don't blame him.

Too be honest zaitsev would be great with Reilly on the top pair. Reilly is pretty sound defensively and zaitsev is by far our best defensive Dman. I think the two would make a great tandem.

I think your close on numbers. Marner on a 6 year term may be a smart move to keep numbers down and offset extensions.

The only criticisms I have is the Tyler ennis signing. I don’t see him sticking around. I believe both Moore and Grundstrom will be regulars in the line up. Hate to say it but brown might be the odd one out. Not a big fan of signing England as I do believe there will be better options available but a vet guy may be necessary.

If you value Ozhiganov so much. we does he only get 1m. He's a UFA in summer of 2020. Engelland has lived in Vegas for years....he ain't moving. The reality might be, a big name and their cap will have to be traded.

I am curious to see how a Reilly/Zaitsev pairing would work out.l, just not totally sold on it. I agree with you on Moore and Grundstrom being regulars next year. I was just tinkering a bit and completely forgot about Moore. I don't see Engelland coming to Toronto, it was more just to sign an aging rhd vet to a lower contract. Kind of like Hainsey but not as expensive.

I should probably have given Oz a bit more but not much. As long as it's not too expensive I hope he sticks around. And I don't see Engelland coming to Toronto. Just an example of an aging veteran presence to help Rosen. They aren't trading any of the big 4, and Marleau is not going anywhere so major improvements to the d aren't coming until the following year. Unless they start to unload Kap, Brown, kadri, etc which I just don't see them doing.

Other teams can force Toronto's hand. It's not like these guys wouldn't be worth the offer sheet compensation. Matthews can tell TOR to give him whatever he wants because there are alot of teams who would give that compensation. I could see him turning around MTL, NJD, STL could make space for him in addition to NSH (plus that would have him playing the in the west coast so he would be closer to home without having to play on Arizona's team.

And you are telling me that Marner wouldn't sign a 5 year deal vs a 7 if it meant he could make 10 million vs 8.7 and then re-sign while he is still in a prime window for a max value? I could see a team like Calgary pulling the trigger on that.

I just question if Nylander is part of big four anymore. That ship has sailed (but that's me)

No way Matthews only gets 11.5 that’s way too low. He’s going to get close to the cap percentage of what McDavid signed at. So he’ll get closer to 13

That's what I was saying. TOR fans think he is going to take that and TOR does not have the leverage with Matthews that they did with Nylander since Matthews is going to max the Offer Sheet compensation anyways and he will likely be worth it for a team who is not going to be a lottery team.
