The Hawks need to decide what they want to do first.

Keep Panarin? Don't buyout Bickell and one (at least) of Kruger and Shaw need to be traded and or not signed. No signing Quincey.
OR
Keep Shaw and Kruger? Don't buyout Bickell. Trade Panarin while his stock is high and reap the benefits of trading a player you got for free the year before. No signing Quincey.

The only other options are way more out there and involve trading Crawford or Hossa. I just don't see the need for it. The above options are better IMO.

Why is Motte 'missing'? I'd be surprised he makes the team next year when he's about a year behind in development than some of the guys in Rockford (like Hinostroza, for example). When is the last time a *drafted* prospect walked on the team with 0 pro AHL experience? Kane and Toews are pretty much the only ones to have done it. Saad may have, but we'll never know because he spent half a season in Rockford during the lockout (and then only got the callup once Carcillo was injured). They've had a few free agent signings do it, but they were all older / more mature than Motte. Even Teravainen, the prospect the org has been the highest on in years and has a higher ceiling, spent time in Rockford after playing in a league that is better than the NCAA.

I like Motte a lot and think he could move into a bottom 6 role eventually very well, but it's more of a long shot than people on here seem to think to make the team out of camp this year and stick for any length of time. I'd be less surprised if he was around 2-5 games to start, sent back to Rockford for a bit, and then brought back up latter in the season. Even that is a maybe.

I agree with you that Quincey, especially at that price, is a silly pick up.

Hawks aren't going to lose Hossa - trading him would mean no control over when he retires and the cap recapture penalties are too high to risk that.

Losing TVR, who is about a year behind where Hjammer was at that age, is kind of ridiculous too unless it's for a player near his current development on a good cheap contract.
Alankrz a aimé ceci.

Motte needs more time to develop. He won't be on the opening night lineup. The Hawks do not need to lose TVR and Hossa. And buying out Bickell makes it more difficult to sign valuable free agents next season. While picking up Quincy would be a great addition to the defense, it's a bit short sighted. Also I don't see the current season bonus overages factored in so the above roster is over the salary cap. Panarin's bonus is 2,750,000. Need to factor that in.
