Description
Calgary Trade - Swapping bad contracts from positions of depth to positions of weakness for both teams.

Chicago Trade - Chicago is back up against the cap and there will again be casualties. Getting Burmistrov back and a second rounder (37 overall) should save them a couple million for a third liner and get them a decent prospect.

I like those moves. Copp, Lowry, Burnistrov and Petan just aren't quite the third line centre.

The Calgary trade makes some sense for both teams even though Pavelec really doesnt help them any more then Hiller or Ramo did. I think they want to get an established starter if they're looking to trade for a goalie. Wideman also would only be getting 5-6 line minutes, which would be taking away from Stuart/Chiarot and potentially Morrisey as a result. Sure the trade CAN work but does it really help either team? Not really IMO.

The Chi trade is IMO, a bit much to give up. Shaw is good but he's also had the opportunity to play with some pretty darn good players these past couple years. If he plays 3rd line minutes with less talented players, i think its fair to say he won't be putting up 3.75M type numbers. The 32nd overall pick this year and a former 1st rounder who still is a decent player is a bit of an over payment i think. But hey Shaw is a playoff style guy that every team wants so sometimes you gotta overpay.

Do you think Stafford and Connor is a major step back from Teravainen and Fleishmann? I like the idea of adding a guy that puts up 30-40 points playing 14 minutes a night. Burmi put up 21 points playing over 16 minutes a game.

We both know Shaw got his fair share of "Toews and PP time". That's the difference. Burmi has played on terrible teams ever since he joined the NHL. Hard to blame him for not producing as much as expected. Anyways i just think as good as Shaw is, a lot of his appeal has come from the fact that he's played with some very good players and very good Chicago teams. I don't think he gives you as much as he did in Chicago. The 32nd overall and a young cheap skilled forward is a lot for Shaw. Your basically giving two 1st rounders for Shaw. Kind of steep for a 3rd line center as you say.
