No way you get Kapanen and a first for Hamonic. It would be one or the other.

I also dont know why you would want to be trading Hamonic, that thins out the D core quite a bit

I think you would get Kapanen and a first as the Flames would be taking on Horton's contract as well. The right handed D in Hamonic is much more valuable to the Leafs right now than Kapenen with all of your offense already there. You also get a much needed veteran presence in net with Smith ( I know he isn't playing well now but TO in need of D and G). I think with Valimaki and Stone back soon we are ok, I would like to see them pick up a veteran D for depth into the playoffs.....oh and as the title of the team suggested, this is just for fun.

How does taking on Horton's contract affect the Leafs cap at all? It doesn't. "Veteran presence in net" are just words which mean overpaid goalie. Smith isn't better than Sparks.

No...but I don't see a reason why the leafs would need to 'pay' another team to take his contract. He can go on LTIR during the offseason and won't affect the cap.

As for Sparks, he's 6-2-1 after 9 starts. Now..I don't think he's looked that great when he's been in there...but the Leafs made the decision at the end of the pre-season to pick Sparks over Pickard and Mcelhinney. I don't think they'd be willing to just walk away from him now. My guess is that they were, and continue to be, willing to ride the bumps with Sparks for the near future. I know a lot of the hockey analysts think a backup goalie is at the top of the Leafs shopping list....but unless Sparks or Andersen end up on the IR for the rest of the season, I just don't see it happening as they'd have to subject Sparks to waivers.

As for Hamonic...I don't mind him...but there seems to be this mind set that any RHD man will be an immediate upgrade for the Leafs. This is just my personal opinion, but I feel a guy like Hamonic is exactly the type of d-man they shouldn't go after. Someone who, IMO, really doesn't move the needle that much. I think they should either swing for the fences on a legit #1 (Pietrangelo), or pick up a depth vet D-man on an expiring contract for a mid-round pick.

Juice, thank you for the reasonable well thought out response, I respect the comments. I wish everyone took the time to explain their view and not just a toung lashing on a site that's here just for fun. Cheers
