If the Leafs had Vatanen, along with Rielly, Gardiner, and I believe Zaitsev and Carrick are going to be good, maybe Hedman isn't needed as much as some other spots. The trouble with the Ducks trades is that draft picks you suggested could very well be in the mid 20 or late 20s. The only Matthews deal I think is with Arizona, with Strome part of the package coming to the Leafs. Anderson could very well become a Leaf, but I think in the summer of 2017.

i dont think your right when you say the leafs dont need another centre prospect. yes they have marner and nylander but it seems they project as wingers in the nhl. besides that they have Gauthier who is more of a third line guy. Matthews is exactly what they need. I think your trade is an under sell for the leafs but this, like you said, very unlikely/wont happen.

Kadri is at center already, Hyman is in the system as well. You only need so many skilled centers.

Hyman is a right winger, and seem to be a good one. My prediction. Leafs sign Matthews, he develops...might even a star. He gets traded to Arizona in about 6 years, just when the Leafs sign UFA Connor McDavid.

the leafs have know centre prospect that has the potential to be a first line centre besides nylander, lets face it marner isn't going to be a centre in the NHL if he's a winger in the ohl. Nazem is a good 2nd line centre, but besides that theres nothing in the top six down the middle. The leafs can't pass on the potential of having Mathews-Kadri-Nylander as a 1-2-3 punch for the next 10 years.
