I must say, that trade is horrendous. No way does Carolina trade their top new young upcoming star and their top young defenseman for a bunch of Leafs scraps. I mean come on now. This lacks any sort of common-sense and just makes it seem like you're a typical Leaf homer.

Scraps? You’re joking right? This agm isn’t About the trade. You can refer to my first response here but You’re going to look silly.

Please tell me why in God's name Carolina would trade that for 3rd line Kadri, 3rd line Brown, 3rd line Hyman, and Zaitsev who we all know is terrible, not to mention a more than likely bad 2020 1st. On top of all this, Matthews at 15M and Marner at 13.5M?! That's just ridiculous, even if the cap ceiling goes up...

Not being angry, just being realistic here. And yeah we'll actually give Leivo some playing time haha

So when was the last time horvat potted 30 goals? He must be a 4th liner lol. Just busting your balls. The agm has really nothing to do with the trade. Just contracts moved to fit stupid ideas of what mathews and marner will make next season.

As far as the trade goes Kadri for pesce fits both teams needs and wouldn’t need more than a late pick if anything. Hyman brown zaitsev and a first for svechnikov is probably heavy on quantity and light on quality. I fon’t Think they move him for anything. But realistically no one on here gives those players their full trade value.

Please treat leivo well. There won’t be a single leafs fan bitter if he turns into a 30 goal scorer. He just really didn’t fit the team structure. I still wish we would have gotten rid of brown but he is just faster and more tenacious. Leivo is dynamic aling the boards and can shoot the lights out. Hope he earns a big raise and a top 6 spot as your team looks ready to turn the corner next year.

I’m just going to use cap hit % (CH%).

Leaf fans are hoping Matthews signs an “Eichel” type contract. At the time of Eichel signing he took a CH% of 13.3. If TOR would sign Matthews at that CH% considering next years cap is $83mil, Matthews will get a deal just a tad over $11mil in aav. Leafs fan rejoice!
We can all agree he’s not getting better than McJesus level CH% of 16.67 (yet I still see leaf fans on here saying their equal...sigh), with a $83mil cap, that goes up to $13.8mil aav.

So if we’re being realistic, it’ll be safe to assume Matthews gets something in between those 2 players (so in between $11mil and $13.8mil). I personally believe he’ll get $12.034mil aav (a CH% of just under 14.5). That’s just my guess, it’s not overpaying nor is it him taking a discount.

The only thing I will mention is that when calculating % you need to go with the percentage when the contract starts not when it is signed. To think that agents and Gm’s don’t have a firm idea of what the cap increase will be is ridiculous.

I do agree with you about his salary. I’m thinking it will land somewhere between 11m and 13m

Yeah I get it for sure haha, I just saw the trade and found it ridiculous but all is well. As for Leivo, we love him so far, he seems to fit onto our team really well so far, and I hope he becomes a big part of our future success.
