Looking at the Blues and their defensive record, are Pietangelo and Parayko really the saviour folks think they are? Yes, I know it's not all these two guys that the Blues are playing poorly. Leafs can't afford Gardiner next year and now Pietrangelo and Parayko get 9m. No cap with for both Marner and Matthews signing next year.
Maybe the Blues don't do the trade either.

The salary next year is 8.75 in (Alex 50% retained plus Parayko) and 6.6 out plus the difference in Johnsson new contract and his replacement and browns replacement. Likely a 1-2 mill. It will be tight.

The Blues move BOTH of their best defenders - not to mention Petro is a top 10 and Parayko has been a stud too - and.... this is the return? Zaitsev who's contract is terrible. Gardiner who is fine, but expires after this year. Brown is a third liner. Johnsson has some potential. I like Liljegren, Bracco is kind of a question mark, Rosen is 24 in the AHL. Late 1st and a 2nd.

What is this? There's nothing to tempt the Blues it's just quantity with no quality.

I don’t think going the quantity over quality route will get Pietrangelo AND Parayko. If this were just for Parayko I’d say it’s an overpay but still unlikely St. Louis would do it. Liljegren and Johnsson both great young players, but with the Zaitzev inclusion I don’t think it’d get it done.
