My Crack at Retooling EDM

Description
just a neutral fan trying his hand at improving the Oilers roster. Not really taking Chiarelli-Hitchcock habits into any consideration, just what I think would improve their roster. Went for adding speed and improving wingers. Was gonna try to add a Sekera or Larsson trade but I just don't know how they would move either of those two so I left it to keep it realistic.

EDM
  1. Reaves, Ryan
  2. Choix de 5e ronde en 2019 (VGK)
Détails additionnels:
more or less a cap dump to open space for any FAs/other trades. Reaver's term is up after the '19-'20 season so if this team is truly worried about losing grit, this can be a placeholder. Retain added so the trade isn't completely useless to VGK.
VGK
  1. Lucic, Milan (1 250 000 $ retained)
2.
EDM
  1. Choix de 5e ronde en 2020 (CGY)
Détails additionnels:
Not sure why Calgary would take him on, but with a year left on a cheap contract Kassian isn't a terrible player. Making room for more parts to come back to EDM.
3.
EDM
  1. Rust, Bryan
Détails additionnels:
Russell waives NMC to go to PIT, retained salary to make it an even-money trade.
PIT
  1. Russell, Kris (500 000 $ retained)
4.
EDM
  1. Johnson, Tyler
Détails additionnels:
Great player on a very reasonable contract. Bryaden Point having another insane season and has to be paid $$$. TJ has a NTC, but I'm saying he waives it just for the fun of creating this team.
TBL
  1. Brodziak, Kyle
  2. Yamamoto, Kailer
  3. Choix de 3e ronde en 2020 (EDM)
5.
EDM
  1. Halák, Jaroslav
  2. Miller, Kevan
  3. Choix de 3e ronde en 2019 (BOS)
Détails additionnels:
Tough to give up Nuge but having Tyler Johnson, Ryan Spooner & Caggulia can help them fill a void for 3C if it becomes an issue. Also getting back a goalie that is playing hot in front of a depleted D core and a big bodied Dman to help move another Dman if possible.

No I get it, especially since he is probably their best trade chip. I was going to add Carlo or DeBrusk, but I don't see Boston trading either so I went for something with less return to play around with it.

Charelli being his normal self would pry do that, sad if you think about it.

Also, from the perspective of an oilers fan, Nuge is a peice they cant move unless they can sign a similar type of player in FA

I beg to differ. Chiarelli would make this trade being how dumb he is. Just remember Hall for Larsson.

That Nuge trade is absolutely brutal... Also can't see why Vegas would be even slightly interesting in that deal. And you said it yourself, Tyler Johnson won't waive his NMC. Also Kris Russel isn't getting us Rust. I wish Pittsburg was that dumb. Zuccarello and Silfverberg will both get much more. If Neal got 5.75 x 6, Zuccarello will get 6.25 x 6 at the very minimum. And Silfverberg will get over 5.25x5 with the season he's having. I like the Lehner signing though, so you've got that going for you...

Ultimately a good Edmonton retool would involve making a move to acquire a good young NHL top 6 winger, and freeing up cap space. If Nuge were to be moved, send him to a team that is in desperate need of an upgrade at 2C. Maybe Winnipeg could figure a way to fit him under that cap. Would they give up Vesolainen for him? If we trade Nuge we have to get a quality player back

All fair, all fair. I should have added DeBrusk into the trade instead of Miller, I just didn't think Boston would consider it. Nuge is definitely someone I can see EDM moving even if I don't think they should. Teams with 3 elite centers always have an advantage when it comes to finding a trade partner. I also tried to make the contract offers similar to what they make now, just to try and see what I can make of the current state of the team. Tyler Johnson is interesting to me because he definitely is a good player to move with a lot of interest especially with Point's contract coming up. I'm a Penguins fan, and I know Russell isn't as tangible as he once was, but Rust is struggling right now to produce points even though he has played some really great games lately.

The problem with the Boston trade is that they have no need for a 2nd line center. Krejci has 19 points in 23 games. He was great last season too. Plus he's on contract for 3 more years. They don't need nuge, nor can they afford to add a 6 million dollar player with some of their young guys needing contracts soon. And in regards to Russell, maybe Pittsburgh moves a 3 rounder to acquire him, if we retain at least a million. But they aren't going to give up on Rust that easily, and his value is still significantly more than Russell's.
