You're going to trade a quality top four defenseman for a winger that hasn't been able to make an under-performing team in the NHL by age 23 and a throw away draft pick?
The Nashville trade is a little better in the sense that a 1st round pick is coming back, but it might as well be a 2nd round pick because it will likely be 28-31 overall. However, the Kings already have a logjam at fringe-NHL defensemen, why would they want Carrier? I think they can get more in return for Carter from someone else, if only because a 1st round pick from a team like Montreal, Buffalo, or Arizona, teams that could benefit from an upgrade at 2C, would be in the 10-20 overall range.
If these are the only moves your making, then you're implying that you're not going full rebuild yet and want to try to win now with this team. These trades are essentially giving away key players for pieces that might turn into NHL-ready players in 5 or 6 years. If you're going to trade Carter and Martinez, you need to get back quality pieces that help this team win now. None of these trades do that.
1-star for the Martinez trade, 2.5-stars for the Carter trade.
