Description
Trouba has always wanted out of WPG, I've always wanted Subban out. Win Win.
Jets lose Kulikov's contract and get a top Dman in the league. Preds get Trouba who is younger, better in is own zone and they can sign him long term on a lower cap hit.

Just because you want him out doesn't mean that Poile wants him out. And why would you trade the teams best defenseman?

Fair points, but Josi is the teams best defenseman. Kind of a moot point isn't it, I mean, none of us are the GM's of these teams. None of our trades reflect what any GM would or wouldn't do.
Subban isn't well liked among the players, he's tolerated so maybe Poile would do it.

Ummmm, Josi is the 3rd best defender on Nashville, behind Subban and Ekholm.

And Subban is a great guy off the ice

Have a source for that Subban comment? I live in Nashville. Every indication that I see is that he gets along great with his teammates especially Johansen. Don't use that old MTL narrative to create a false one in Nashville.

it's an interesting proposal. I really like Trouba's game. My problem is that he almost never plays a full season due to injury. He's averaged 65 games played/regular season over the past 4 years. On the flip side he's younger and and is still a really good dman who still probably has some room to grow and will save a little money over the next several years. We'd buy Kulikov out in the offseason b/c that is a bad contract unless we can take the caphit next season which would depend on where Trouba's caphit lands. Logan Stanley would give us a physical dman for the bottom pairing after Hamhuis retires. Somewhat worried about Stanley's ability to actually play at the NHL level but we're pretty short on LHD prospects. Might need another small sweetener to take on that Kulikov contract but other than that I'd probably be game from a Nashville standpoint.

The goal here would be to push the average age of our d group down. Average age of the top 4 is 28 so shifting that down some will help keep the window open for a little longer and might stem the need to rush Fabbro/Allard along. Also some cap savings (after Kulikov's contract is gone) since trouba isn't going to cost 9M.

i'd agree with that as well. At the end of every winning game, the last two off the ice are RyJo and Subban. They always do some sort of celebration dance. Subban probably doesn't get along with everyone but noone does.

Honestly if any of the top 4 should be traded, its Josi. His deal is an absolute steal for another season but he will be due a huge pay raise (probably in the range of $9M per) that won't kick in until he's 30. All the other defensemen will have at least 2 more seasons on their contracts.

Josi could net a huge return with his offensive capabilities.

That's true it could be a tough pill to swallow. I wonder how Fabbro is progressing? I haven't heard much his development. If he signs after this year then spends a year in the AHL, maybe they could be ok with trading Josi. But till at least next year
