Getting Backes out of the way

Description
Not sure about the value tbh... Could be a slight overpayment for a 33-year old, but I see the Backes contract as the absolute worst thing in Boston.

Soderberg and Backes have the same age, but Soderberg still produces (something). His contract is way better and shorter than Backes'. The Avs get a solid young player with Heinen and have more cap to handle the Backes contract. Maybe more salary needs to be retained tho...

When Soderbergs contract comes to an end, we can use the money to sign DeBrusk.

Unless Boston is trading him to STL or MIN, I don't see him being traded this season. In the off-season his NMC goes to a 8-team trade list and then a 15 team trade list the year after that. I still think they should look to find a team with a ton of cap space to help spread out his cap hit.

No thanks to giving up Heinen just to get rid of Backes.

Sure? I never read anything about that. Ok, he's fragile at this point of his career, but seriously?
Btw although he sucks on the ice, I really wish nobody a serious injury that could affect even his personal life.

I personally don't like Heinen that much. I think Donato has more potential.

More potential is what aspect?

Donato has more offensive potential, but Heinen has more two-way potential.

Your'e probably right about that, maybe it's just me. I just don't see him being a Top 6 forward... He really needs to improve his shoot as well.. overall I don't like his game very much.

It really all depends on what you like. Some folks like the highlight reel plays and some like the little details of the game. Heinen is not much for highlight reel plays, but for those who enjoy the little details, he's a fun player to watch. I think Heinen could be a top 6 forward, but he needs to show consistency first. Right now he's a guy who you can move up, down, left, right and he wont hurt you. He may not drastically improve a line, but he'll help stabilize it.

He mentioned after last season he would have to think about his injury history. He’s had a ton of concussions. I would suspect one more and he hangs them up. I would be surprised if he plays two more seasons

Yeah your'e definitely right about that. Just not a highlight reel player... If he signs a team-friendly contract I support keeping him, I just don't want to overpay him because he had over 40 points as a rookie...

If Heinen's asking price gets too high, trust me Boston wont have an issue moving him. A lot of teams are looking for young low maintenance 40+pt wingers that play a simple 200ft game.

Of course Boston won't have an issue moving him... That's why I saw the opportunity moving him alongside Backes.

Ya but you don't move a player like Heinen to move a guy like Backes. Heinen could net you a nice piece and it would be a waste to use his value to get rid of Backes. Backes has value in the NHL, maybe not with fans, but with NHL teams he has value. Boston will be able to move him in the off-season when his NMC goes to a NTC
