No first, try a third

I originally had a 2nd round pick...I just can't see Toronto accepting without a 1st though unfortunately.

If you're taking out the 1st for a 3rd then take out Zykov for Foegele

It is a weird situation since Carolina gave their hand to Toronto and Dubas saying they are all in on the Nylander Trade so now Dubas can go for what he wants imo. It just seems weird that they would say they will do whatever to get Nylander, i think the second is the lowest Dubas would go with that package however, but i like the trade.

Does anyone think though that if Nylander would accept 7 mill from Carolina that he wouldn't take 6.7 or 6.8 from TO or that TO would just match that contract because they are better with Nylander than without?

They lose every trade on this site, keeping him is the smarter choice and at 7 mill I think TO would rather keep him. So if he is going somewhere else it stands to reason that he's going to be making at least 7.5 million.

but maybe exchange Zykov for Roy or McKeown not sure what their prospect pool looks like

Finally someone said it, Toronto can ask the world now because Toronto does not have to trade Nylander, but now they know Carolina is all in. Carolina showed their hand it will be an Ottawa for Duchene trade now.

I havent seen anyone from the Canes org say anything about being 'All In' on Nylander. Id assume its just rumors and speculation. I also think these rumors come from the fact that Carolina has the best chance to land Nylander. They have an absurd amount of great Defenseman to get rid of, and also a lot of cap space, where they could easily give Nylander the 8mil he wants.

Also, if canes give up a first and Pesce, or Faulk, I will be extremely surprised. Canes have plently of great prospects that toronto can work with.

pesce zykov and a 1st lottery protected is a great deal for both teams. we asssume the canes will be a playoff team this year with willy and if not this year the pick would become next years first un protected and next year svechnikov will get better necas and fleury will be up so that pick is at best 15-20 overall. now zykov is a solid bottom 6 forward just sort of a roster guy to increase depth not a big loss for carolina. pesce is just a solid stay at home top 4 defensman. Carolina is dealing from a place of strength in which they have 3 top 4 RHD so i think this deal benefits both teams. If the pick is a second the deal isnt strong enough for the leafs as muzzin is a better defensman and LA are willing to trade him in a deal but with the 1st they could use that at the deadline to pick up another game breaker while adding a still solid defensman.
