Description
So, everyone is saying Toronto should use Nylander to pursue a stay at home RHD. Well lets reallllllly break this down and talk about it.

What does Nylander bring to the table:
- Controlled player coming off an ELC
- Offensively gifted posting back to back 60+ point season
- Top 50 player in the league at 5on5
- Center potential
- Top possession and zone entry player in the league
- Dynamic on PP, could quarter back it
- Sky high potential that realistically has not been touched yet
- Could immediately impact a line up
- Has #1C potential

Yes I understand that Toronto apparently NEEDS a top pairing right shot defense man. Now lets take two seconds and look at some of the main players talked about. Toronto would be looking at potentially:
- Better shot against metrics
- Less high danger chances against
- Better penalty killing

These are very valuable things, HOWEVER, it is proved time and time again defense can be made. Sure you aren't going to turn a middling prospect into a Hedman, but that being said, every year there is an unexpected defense in a break out season. Very rarely does this happen for an offensive talent like Nylander. You cant train what his underlying numbers are proving about him. I understand the assumption is, "leaf fans are delusional". But I am telling you it isn't that. Its the fact that we have been watching an underrated talent for four years now and we are jazzed as hell about how great he is.

Just some thoughts.

Lets talk about stats:
High danger shots against: tied for 13th
High danger chances against: 21st
Goals against: tied for 8th
Goals against per game" tied for 6th
PK%: 6th
Shots against per game: 14th

The stats say that we have an average defence with a good goalie.
Can the leafs D improve? Undoubtedly yes. It is awful by any means? No, its average at worst. No need to go out and overpay to fix anything.

You understand Nylander is statistically BETTER than Marner at 5v5 right? He is top 50 5v5 player. Just because you badly underrate him doesn't mean he sucks.
