plus minus is the worst stat in hockey. dont judge a player based solely on +/-

I think moli is right.... but luc3 is even more right lol. Faulk is certainly not what we need. +/- is a tell tale if he is on a pp unit not on a pk and is still minus. I’ve only watched one canes game this season... would this describe Faulk?

Gardiner is actually really good though if you watch him and not listen to the stupid toronto media

I think his stats are long term enough and you watch him hes a decent player. I think you throw him into this lineup with the forwards we have and he would play well

It seems that every RHD in the league that is traded to the Leafs are Norris candidates. Take Carolina, supposed all four of the Canes RHD, Hamilton, Pesce, Faulk, and TVR....are so much better than the Leafs RHD. Gee, that's a big overpayment for Faulk, for his play and his term....he's a UFA in summer of 2020.

I just haven’t watched a lot this year to know what special teams he is on. I have seen enough of him in the past to know he isn’t what we need. If we didn’t have guys like liljegren and sandin coming up Faulk May make a bit more sense.

Fortunately Leaf fans can watch all the Leaf games, many Marlie games and many other NHL games. Most of what the talking heads talk about is just for their ratings. They contribute little knowledge or insight to the actual game that a fan can't observe for themselves.
Gardiner? Fans can make up their own minds by watching the game. They don't know the media to sway their opinions. My opinion of Gardiner and I has said this before. He reminds of the episode in the original Star Trek where Captain Kirk is split into the "Good Kirk" and "Bad Kirk". The crew could not figure out how to merge the two Kirks into the one...the real Kirk until the end of the show. The Leaf have the same problem with Gardiner. You never know what you're going to get game to game. "The Good Gardiner" or the" Bad Gardiner". Three coaches later and seven years later, coaches can't figure how to merge these two Gardiners into a steady competent player 82 games a year (and a game 7 playoff game).

faulk is better at d than gardiner but not by much and pp and pk do not affect plus/minus in any way at all.

You’re shitting me right? Do you have any idea how many goals are scored within seconds of a pp expiring? Not to mention that playing on a pk limits your ability to score. I know they do not directly count pp/pk plus minus unless a shorty is scored but these things do effect plus minus.

Another thing to keep in mind is a Dman who kills penalties for an average of 5minutes per night will not be able to register a + during that ice time... unless of course there is a shorty but is much more likely to register a negative as the penalty expires.

Thats why hes only paid 4 mil though because he is a top 4 dman not a top 2. When you watch him play live you can really see what makes him effective defensively because its anticipation in the neutral zone where hes best and shutting down speed rushes. Its very hard to see on TV because he is not in the play yet but if you talk to anyone who watches live games (maybe you do) thats what is said about him. First thing I noticed

I not a a guy who put much validity in these number rankings. As good as Gardiner is on the PP and certainly average to good at even strength, he doesn't see much PK. To me that makes him a questionable high end player. But I think Leaf fans who see him regularly, appreciate him for what he is (and sometimes isn't). Leafs certainly need him this year.....next year, I doubt if there is cap space for him.
