Description

Stauffer floated the idea of McLeod making the team out of camp. I wasn't a big fan of this idea at first, but after reading THN's season preview for the OHL it looks like Mississauga is going to stink. I seem to recall that the Oilers had a hard time moving Draisaitl to Kelowna when he was with Prince Albert; do they take that same approach and get McLeod onto a potential Memorial Cup roster or do they bring him up to the big club and play him on a sheltered minutes 3rd line?

As much as I hate the idea of Strome on the wing and running a rookie as the #3C, this definitely helps with the scoring depth of the Oilers.

He had the NHL-calibre skating. Hockey IQ and skill were his questionable assets, and his training camp thus far has suggested that those are very much not a problem. Bouchard would ideally work on his stride more and his play behind the puck on an unfairly stacked London roster, while Bear, Benson, Yamamoto, and the other AHL-eligible prospects go down to dominate in Bakersfield.

Faulk trade is a Faulk trade. Opted to move an extra pick and retain less salary instead of sending a prospect. Gives Carolina effectively all the assets they'd need to make a legitimate run at Duchene.

He's really not though? Like outside of optics, what's the difference between Kassian and a 1st and the package I offered? There's not a ton of difference in certainty or skill in picks beyond #20.

Faulk, at his best, is a good offensive defenceman that can't be trusted with any sort of defensive minutes. He scores and gets scored on. If Carolina wants more, they can retain more. I wouldn't go beyond Kassian, a 1st, and a 4th.

1) You are right Faulk is a flawed right handed puck moving defenceman. That isn't worth all that much, or at least it shouldn't be but some GM's are terrible.

2) Kassian is worth literally nothing. Also a 1st rounder from Edmonton isn't 20th or higher, it's likely going to be another top 10 pick. Even with this trade the team is still so weak. Edmonton has McDavid and a about 8 other players worth keeping around, the rest is a collection of guys who wouldn't make a good team period.

The Pacific is still relatively weak this year, this is a wildcard roster provided that the Central division mutilates itself with the three superteams at its helm. The only "locks" for playoff contention in the Pacific are the Sharks and Knights. Can the Kings and Ducks overcome father time? Can the Oilers and Flames sort out their goaltending woes? Is Arizona for real? Vancouver's already well out of contention.

That means there's a good chance that the Oilers 2019 1st is likely to not be a top-10 pick. Somewhere between 11-20 is a lot more reasonable. Ottawa, Detroit, Vancouver, Montreal, New York R, Chicago, and New York I are objectively worse than the Oilers. Unless they win one of the lotteries, there's probably more value in two picks than one.

Kassian's worth less than Faulk yes, but it's not entirely nothing. Carolina - specifically their ownership - values grit, toughness, and hard work. I'd say according to the Hurricanes, Kassian's worth approximately a 4th Round Pick.

I'd do that deal if I'm Edm. Faulk is essentially a $$$ dump for Car but if I'm a fan I'd want more too. But look at what they got for Skinner and what Ott got for ERIK KARLSSON! The bar is set and it's low. I've heard MSM guys talking about a similar type package so I'd suggest this is in fact possible (but unlikely...Chia is the worst GM outside of Dorian).
