I get the impression you're very emotionally invested in Price...

I just don't think Price is tradable. He's coming off an awful season and starting a 10 million dollar contract this year. He's also dealt with injuries his entire career. I don't think Price will fetch anything you want on the trade maket. That being said, Price is the best goalie in the league and trading him for a return you don't want is criminal. For these reasons I think Price retires a Hab.

Price ALONE can bring me to the playoffs, but he can't bring me a cup. Does Armstrong make this trade?

As a Blues fan I would accept this trade, but my point is that this is a lame return, but probably the best that Price can get. If this is all Price gets you, than I think they should just keep him.

If Bergevin traded Price, that would be the straw that broke the Camel's back.
I think for this trade to go through though, STL would have to add a prospect like Erik Foley or Klim Kostin. Good work though!

Forget the Phaneuf example. Habs are projected to finish near the bottom. What's the point of keeping either 1 of them, when they can still bring in a good return if traded, and simultaneously increase our chances at #1 OAP?

and in today's NHL having a 33 years old injury-prone slow moving shutdown d-man is really the trend...Hell i like Petry better.

Like i mentioned to the other poster, MTL is rebuilding. They won't be relevant for the next 3-4 yrs. Price at 35 won't make sense to MTL. Getting something in return does. If you think Price is worth more than what I'm asking, there can always be future conditions included in the deal. Price in STL could mean dynasty for the next 5 yrs.

I think this is a realistic Price deal and shows his value, but I don't understand trading the best goalie in the world for a return that isn't that good.

Wew this thread is nutty. Price and Weber are not going anywhere, period. We took Weber specifically so that he would retire as a Montreal canadian. If you look at habs prospects we've planned to draft players to eventually grow to replace them when they get older.

Weber is a vet, but his skill set and his strengths are going to regress at a slower pace then others. I'd say he has a career into his 40s, same with Price.

They are the leaders of this team, and yes, if we're honestly planning a rebuild, we should look to move them for young players, but at the end of the day Price has played the most games as our goalie then any other franchise goalie Montreal has ever had. We're going to retire his jersey for sure, and in 10 years time you'll see a whole generation of players who geared their game to match Webers and Prices.

Also, Montreal is not rebuilding. They won't need 3-4 years to be competitive again. A healthy Price and Weber already makes us a playoff team. and besides those two most of Montreal is under 25 years old. We're "building for the future" according to GMMB. And I'm happy with it.

I'm not planning to keeping Allen. There's a few good teams that could use an upgrade in goal e.g FLA (easily I get a 1st ++ if I take Luongo off their hands), PHI ( I can get a 1st for sure if I take Elliot back, and by the time Allen's contract is up, Carter Hart will be ready).

So now I got 2 1st rnd picks (STL + FLA or PHI) , a 2nd (VGK) and Kyrou in the bank. And my gut tells me I can get more. That is better than 8 yrs of a Price that was all for nothing.

I don't care if we're a playoff team in 3-4 yrs. That's not good enough. If Price and Weber are on board with that cap hit, I want "cup contender status" in 3-4 yrs. but that would sound unrealistic, that's why you were very careful by using the word "competitive". Which it could mean different things. But assuming both of them will be effective till their 40's, that's unrealistic and too big a gamble. If I see regretion in 5 yrs when Price is 35, what the heck do I do with him and a contract that will definitely be untradable even if I retained half the cap/salary?

You deal with it cause Price is a montreal legend, and we don't **** around with our legends too often.

This is the business of winning cups, goalies don't win cups, good teams win cups. And if it means trading Price to get the pieces in order to be a constant contender, so be it. If Gretzky can be traded, then everyone can be traded.
