If he scores 40 goals with Stastny and re-signs and continue in scoring a lot, he would be like Wheeler than its fine price.. but with that 1st line winger you have you win ****!!

Habs media is quoting the brass as saying the deal was contingent on signing a long term renewal, soooooooo

When you factor in where Vegas got the assets for this trade from, it works out to a 1st, 2nd, 3rd in different years for Karlsson, Pacioretty, and Clarkson's LTIR money. I do that deal any day.

I thought last years trade for Tatar was really stupid. For a team that talked a lot of crap about building for the future. This idea that they can contend now has really sunk in and they do appear to be throwing out the plan.
If they win great no one doubts it. If they don't everyone is gonna wonder about what could have been.
It could also be they draft a whole lot of players and they go no where.
I will say this about the GM. He's playing to win, not to not lose. I will give him credit for that.

Just because Vegas was dumb last year on that Tatar trade (their only bad move), it doesn't translate to the value of Patches.
Right now....forget last TDL, Tatar was a 5.3 cap dump. (with retention a 4.85m cap dump). Vegas now has lots of cap space next summer without Tatar or Max for some UFA signings. If Tatar can be a 45 point player again his contact is OK for Montreal, if not it's a bit of drag on the Habs. But certainly Tatar isn't going to help/hinder Montreal either way.

Won't they be embarrassing for the Habs, if Vegas and Max don't reach a deal. Now the unwanted Max has to be welcomed back into the Canadiens family. I don't see why Vegas would be so enamoured to sign Max long term. Other UFAs next year and Vegas will have cap.

NO that is not his value!!! VGK took a risky gamble @tdl. Tons of picks, high rolling, record breaking, best expansion team in sports history and from Vegas. Wise gamble, just the wrong player Tatar. I know, I know, 20 goals four years in a row... He's a Cap Dump even retained. Pretty much had to take Tatar, but AT LEAST it meant MTL got a quality, instead of the usual quantity for rentals. Max's value was low because GMs know the term he wants; Too long, too much, make up for being underpaid in prime, retirement contract. New NHL + Max (next Nash) long term = YUK. Tatar (another Hemsky, Panik, Michalek) = lesser yuk. Hopefully VGK can sign Max on a good deal, if not they can trade him @tdl for a Nash return or his rights in June for a pick or two. MTL is stuck with Tatar for 3 more years @ 4.8m unless they retain another 1m or so, even then? Sure they both could have good years, but long term???
