The Pens offered better than Murray for Athanasiou last year and they declined. I doubt they move him now.

What did the Pens offer? I bet it was not all that special, probably a forward which h is not what the Wings need.

Source? There was no mentioning of any kind of AA deal to Pittsburgh at any time. Not sure whom Pittsburgh would have that Detroit would want. Detroit would be looking at a decent D prospect for AA and Pittsburgh doesn't have one.

There were trade rumors. The Pens wanted AA settled for Riley.

Rumors were Cole and a 1st. They declined.
Cole was on the trade block all last year hoping they could land center help.

they did. The Pens viewed AA as a potential 3C in their lineup. They wouldn't budge on him. Instead they had to settle for Riley. They did not want Riley as their 3C. But their only optios were Gregg McKegg and Carter R.
They had no help at center for 1/2 the year. They would have loved to have traded for AA instead of Riley. But Detroit refused to play ball.
He was ideal for the Pens. Young, RFA, and a low cap hit.

So Cole ended up traded out for Brass instead.

Wings do need forwards 28th in scoring last year and its been the problem the last few years(losing one goal games)-the defense/goal tending has at least managed a 21st(middle of the pack the last few years) I agree the defense is aging and need improvement, but the #1 problem with this team is they can not score period. hopefully the kids will pick it up this year, but they need to infuse some offense somehow

They need everything and a dman who is a legit 2nd pair guy for a forward they don't seem to believe in anyways then I would have liked it. If they knew cole wouldn't resign then no but as bad as the forward group is the d is worse
