I disagree, and without Max re-signing before the deal, that would be too much to ask. Janmark is a solid player and a 2nd gives you some decent prospects. I would suspect you'd want to keep Spezza playing for the year (it's too late to buy out anyway) and then you'd still get something for him at the TDL from a team like SJ or NJ, who were hampered when top-2 Cs got hurt late in the season. Spezza would be dynamite playing with two speedy wingers like Hudon and Domi.

I agree Janmark is a solid player but he basically just another Danault. Plus Max is still elite, any deal with him being sent out of town needs to include a first round pick or an A level prospect isnt one Montreal should accept.

Maybe, but when you denigrate and degrade assets the way Bergevin does, no one is going to open the vault. As I said, if the deal comes with a 4-year+ commitment from Max, then sure. Maybe we agree to a 2nd that jumps to a 1st if Max re-signs or they trade him.

Spezza's 35 is declining due to the game changes passing him by and had just 26 points in 78 games and a -18 which is worse then his rookie year in which he went 21 points in 33 games . just saying at 7.5m you have to pay a team to take him if you're retaining zero cap and as decent as Janmark is he just doesnt cut it if all we get is a 2nd pick .

to provide Context Plekanec's took almost 500 more faceoffs then Spezza while scoring 26 points in 77 games +1 and he's 4.7m cap less then Spezza's this year .

now if Janmark was a top line center prospect sure but he's like Danault a 2nd line guy on a non playoff team , a 3rd line guy a playoff team .

No argument, though I do think Spezza is smart enough to milk it for another year and make himself useful. He's not fast, but he's not terribly slow yet. He could play a 160-foot game, going hash marks to hash marks and would still demand a lot of attention from other teams -- assuming the Habs have people who can feed him the puck up the slot. That is supposedly what Domi does best.
