This is very interesting. CGY is LW heavy, and OTT is RW heavy. Stone would end up walking, CGY wants to contend (Hence signing James Neal). I think this is a good idea. Decent return for OTT considering everyone knows the bind they're in. I feel like the only problem is OTT's lack of D prospects. They will want to pick up some D prospects in a separate trade for sure. Overall, this is a great idea.

If this comes without a Stione extension, I love this deal as a Sens fan. However, I'd much rather re-sign Stone for 7 years than make this deal. OTT needs to evaluate whether a long term Stone deal can get done. If not, I love this idea.

here's the thing I agree with everything you are saying but i really do think that some of ottawa's d prospects fly under the radar they seem to like to draft workhorse defenceman they just can log minutes and be effective on special teams but never do enough flashy stuff or put up enough points to be considered a top end prospect in some eyes but i think they arent too bad back there for the future just need one more top d prospect to be safe.

They need more D prospects. Brown, White and Tkachuk are all elite forward prospects. Sure they have D prospects that log minutes, but is there another Thomas Chabot in that pool of D men? I don't see it. For that reason, I think they need to make some moves for D men.

I don't think he wants to stay in Ottawa after the disastrous season they had. Melnyk is cheap. Doubt he extends Stone for another pay raise. Moving him for Tkachuk is gonna put fans in the seats. Brady causing havoc on one line and Matthew causing havoc on another? I'd watch that.

And I agree they do need to make those moves but the fact of the matter still remains that they have a good group of prospect dmen Christian Wolanin, bernard docker,Tychonick they are all solid dmen from what we have seen of them so far and yeah they might go far a nice d prospect but that doesnt mean all the problems are solved for 2 reason one white didnt display anything last season showing him too be elite even though i think he will be be brown has played 4 games and they werent great he might be a star but how the hell will we know and tkachuk well i think he is the real deal but to trade an expensive 26 year old like stone and get a talented 20 year old and picks yeah i think they woud take this deal first they can trade karlsson for that next big name prospect this deal is a yes too me

Here's the thing I dont think we know if stone wants out of ottawa or not we know karlsson is prob not happy but since the only one to request a trade is anderson i think its more a matter of can melnyk redeem himself with the players in the lineup in some way and the answer is prob not great but stone might stay for the right price many of there forward prospect as you pointed out are really good and nhl ready and with a little tweaking and a new top prospect on D this team could turn around in only a few seasons who knows.

It makes sense for both teams. Maybe the Flames send back a D prospect instead of those picks. If Karlsson (and/or Duchene) gets traded then you can bet there will be something good coming back there on the D prospect wise.

The Stones get to play together and so do the Tkachuks.

Agreed I would swap out the picks for Kylington or Andersson.

You could, but wouldn't you want two different D pairings to have to worry about two separate headaches?

Maybe, man Ottawa is screwed though. All their big name players have 1 year left before UFA, coming off a horrendous season, you'd think they'd try to sell. But, they don't have their 1st round pick... They'll sell and miss out on a top 5 pick. They don't sell, and lose everyone for nothing while hoping they squeak into the playoffs and one or two players decide to stay.

Andersson instantly sprang to mind for me as well, had forgotten about Kylington as another option.
