If Ottawa’s not getting their own first back they ask for Makar. They’ve been asking for best prospects(Heiskanen, Glass etc). Think Barrie and Otts 1st would be what they would ask for or else they just go elsewhere for better return. (More picks and prospects)

If your getting Karlson with an extension and no Bobby Ryan then your giving up your best prospect and probably three other pieces.

I think it is Fair Value, you get a very good D-man, who just had a terrific season and he is still sign for 2 years at a bargain price.
plus a very good d-men prospect in Timmins and probably a mid 1st rounder in 2020.
Vs Karlsson, a defencemen that is exceptionally talented but will be overpaid like every defencemen hitting free agency, and he have an injury history whit him too.

I don't know why Sens fans think Karlsson is going to a better return than that. Especially since there is only a small chance of this magical "sign and trade" occurring. The open sign and trade hasn't happened so far this off season, no reason to think it ever going to happen. Maybe EK will just be happier being a UFA next summer.

Certainly Ottawa who has open bidders on EK this summer, really hasn't made a trade. And with teams already having their cap and rosters, it's getting to be an unrealistic dream that this non existant sign and trade will ever happen. Do you really believe that Ryan is included in any deal. It's tough enough for teams to squeeze in a 11m extension never might adding 7.25m for Ryan, who is a 3m player.
I think the fans aren't looking at the reality of the cap/value/trade situation with EK. Sure he can traded as a rental, but only a contender would do these, and they would want/need back to the Sens.
We'll see what happens in the next month and who knows it the story might go to next June, but I'm betting Sens fans aren't getting the return they hope for.
