Take off Rust. Jets wouldn't have room for his contract. You can keep your 2nd since you can't be dumping Rust, but that's the best counter the jets could give in this scenario. The more I look at all those stats the more I would like that trade (without Rust).

Pittsburgh doesn't have the pieces to land Jacob Trouba, And Rick Nash will cost at least $5 million per on a one year deal.

Agree 100%. But I feel this allows the Jets to trade Kulikov away to someone who would take that full contract and just send the Jets some draft picks.

I think these pieces that the Penguins have would almost certainly land Trouba. Getting a young defenseman in Maatta who is signed to a nice cap hit for a good amount of years. Rust who can provide scoring on the 3rd line but can also play top 6 minutes, He pretty much can do it all. He would be a great replacement for if/ when Perreault gets dealt away. Also Sprong who has a ton of potential and who could be a great goal scorer. The Jets are giving up a guy who obviously does not want to be in WPG and 2 bottom 6 guys which is what the Pens are looking for in terms of depth players. Kessel & Guentzal aren't going anywhere so Sprong is a highly sought after asset the Pens could give up.

Yes, he is. Where exactly would you pencil Rust into our lineup? If it's not the top 6 than committing 3.5mill to our 3rd line for the next 4 years is not a good investment. We already have a possession wizard in Perreault. Our 3rd line is going to likely be Perreault/Little or Roslovic/someone else (probably Appleton maybe Roslovic)

Perreault has never not made a bottom six line relatively elite, and Little has that on his resume as well. The Jets are going to have one of the better 3rd lines in the league. That's as close to a fact as any prediction about the upcoming season. Let's not add 3.5mill to a line that will already be stellar. Unless Pittsburgh feels like sending us a top 6 center which won't happen, there's no one in the forward group over 3mill that fits on our roster.

If Pitt feels like selling Rust there are probably a dozen teams that would give up something of decent value for him. Chevy wouldn't be one of them.

Trouba is so over valued on sites its insane. He has pretty much said I am gone and going to try free agency no team will give up his value for him. Rust is no way a salary dump not even close get a clue. He might not be a need on your team but he is not a dump.

nash is not playing this year or maybe ever again. He will not ever get close to 5 million again if he does play.

Lehtonen is a waste of space. not even an nhl goalie anymore.

Skinner trade made canes gm jump of a bridge no shot. Pens fans are so clueless on value on here

Rust can be slotted in anywhere in the lineup. It just so happens that the Jets are stocked with talented wingers in their top 6. You say committing $3.5M to your 3rd line is not a good investment but you are ok with $4.125M for a 3rd liner? With Rust you would be saving $625K which isn't a lot but when it comes time to sign Laine, Wheeler, Myers (MAYBE), Connor any little bit helps. Perreault I think will get dealt to get rid of that contract and with having Rust there as a back up plan for cheaper would make it easier to move him.

Investing 4.125mill into our 3rd line is not a good idea. The difference is that Perreault was signed at a time when he was definitively in our top 6. Connor has pushed him out of that, and henceforth he has had his name thrown around in trade rumours. I don't dislike Rust but he is essentially a scaled down version of Perreault on the right side at .625K cheaper. Slightly lower possession stats with a slightly higher relative possession, and a slightly lower P/60. Trading for Rust pretty much seals Perreault's fate that he's dealt, and saving .625K for essentially the same player is not worth the complications. Too much risk for a small reward.
