From the logic side, Columbus is already good on D, they'd be looking for forward/center help in my opinion. This deal leaves them even more bare up front. This is also assuming he is resigning, which is a big "?".
Petan, is smallish, one dimensional and hasn't really even established himself as an NHL caliber player. The Rangers have lots of smallish forwards, and tons of LHD. Not really interesting enough to entice the Rangers to take on a contract and a player who's health is in question. The pick makes the deal even worse.
