'03 : Came oh so close to put M-A.Fleury instead of E.Staal. P.Bergeron, S.Weber, R.Suter, Z.Parise, B.Burns, C.Perry, J.Pavelski, D.Byfuglien were all considered (all great choices)
'04 : Extremely straight forward. No deliberating at all, here!
'05 : Hesitated between Price and Kopitar for a good 5 minutes...being dominant in goal is so rare that I prioritized it. Both excellent choices, though.
'06 : P.Kessel & C.Giroux were VERY close 3rd and 4th.
'07 : L.Couture is very hard to pass on...Voracek too (though not as hard as Couture), but PK Subban was the hardest to pass on!...P.Kane & J.Benn are simply better.
'08 : Before throwing some rocks at me for passing on Stamkos, consider this : Doughty and Karlsson are, for pretty much everyone in the world, the #1 & #2 best D...is Stamkos top 2 forward in the world? (That was my thought process). I also had to pass on B.Holtby, arguably the best goalie in the world, right now...that's not an easy one too!
'09 : pretty straight forward, here.
'10 : Kuznetsov, Tarasenko, Klingberg would've all been good choices, but the first 2 are too obvious to be ignored.
'11 : This is where it gets really interesting! D.Hamilton? J.Huberdeau? G.Landeskog? J.Gibson? O.Palat? V.Trocheck? Ok, Kucherov is a lock...it really was a battle between M.Scheifele and J.Gaudreau...and M. Hockey won, after a long deliberation!
'12 : O.M.G.! SO many great options! F.Forsberg, A.Galchenyuk, M.Reilly, A.Vasilevsky, M.Dumba, C.Parayko, S.Gostisbehere, F.Andersen...I mean, so many players are very close in value to their team and in quality of players. It's very hard to choose, but I think Trouba's the best all around D (right now) in that draft year and Hellebyuck is a very strong young goalie. Lots and lots of great possible picks...
'13 : There's 3 clear top candidates. N.MacKinnon, A.Barkov & S.Jones. So it was really between Jones and Barkov...this is as hard as it gets, but I had to give the nod to Jones because playing the position at his level at his age, it's truly exceptionnal! (The same can be said for Barkov, but I had to make a choice!).
'14 : Like for 2012, there's lots of good choices. B.Point, V.Arvidsson, S.Reinhart, N.Ehlers, W.Nylander & D.Larkin. Ekblad is a shoe-in, no debate here...BUT, for the last spot, there's a huge battle...L.Draisaitl or D.Pastrnak??? This is litterally too close to call. After more than 10 minutes of deliberating with myself, I decided to go with Pastrnak (I will get insulted so badly for my choices, I already feel it).
'15 : It's only a battle for the 2nd spot (because = McJesus), but it's an epic one! B.Boeser, M.Barzal, M.Marner, Z.Werenski, S.Aho (the forward), M.Rantanen, I.Provorov & K.Connor all are extremely good players...but the obvious #2 still is J.Eichel (for now).
'16 : And last, but not the least, is pretty obvious, even though C.Keller, C.McCavoy, M.Sergachev & A.DeBrincat have something to say about this...first and second overall remains #1 & #2.
That's it folks! Hope you enjoyed it. I put a lot of time and effort in this ACGM, hope you guys like it! Feel free to engage me in a discussion about something you liked or disliked in this ACGM. Peace!
I might be biased but as Johny hockey and scheifele are two good players...I would have to get to a center....in Scheifs.....I get your point but I would rather have scheifs or Couterier

The point of the thread is finding the 2 BEST players from each drafts. So C, LW, RW, D or G...it doesn't matter. I compared players based on their skill level, talent, effectiveness, value to their team. It's not a "who would be better to start your franchise" type of thread (in which, when 2 players are very much equal and one is a C one is a LW, I would go with the C). Gaudreau's still level is off the chart and unmatched in his draft year. He's above Scheifele in that aspect. Anyway, I ABSOLUTELY love Scheifele, one of my favorite player in the league ...no bad choices here (though Couturier isn't in their categories...he's not caparable to the both of 'em)

Each to there own... still think scheifele is better than Gaudreau...if I had to draft again, I would pick Scheifs over Gaudreau
