Quoting: ngikas
Ive said it to you and many others on here about how krugs point getting ability and what he can do on the pp and offensively is great. But Im just not a huge fan of him. Its why you see me include him in a lot of trades. Also its the added value he carries in a potential trade. We have guys who can produce points. Maybe not to the exact level of Krug but could come close to a combined equivalent of what he has done. Its just his defensive inability that scares me. While he has the intangibles to be a good dman he's just not. And he's been a great bruin, and bursted onto the scene like a superstar back in 2013. Im sorry if we disagree but thats just how it is for me.
So then you play him in a role more suited for his game. Put him on the 3rd pairing and let him QB both PP's. Personally I think that's where he belongs anyways. I'd even breakup Chara/McAvoy TBH and try and balance things out a little bit more...
Chara - Carlo
Moore - McAvoy
Krug - Miller/McQuaid
Krug's obviously never going to win a Norris, but you need guys like Krug on the backend to bring scoring. I'd also strongly question the idea that we have guys on the backend who can produce points close to what Krug does (even combined). Why do I say that:
Krug - 59pts
Chara, McAvoy, Carlo, Grzelcyk, Postma, O'Gara, McQuaid, Miller & Holden combined - 83pts
Krug by himself matched 72% of the total points every other d-man on Boston put up last year. That's 9 guys vs 1 guy in offensive production, so moving Krug is going to cut your offensive output from the backend by just over 40%
The only 3 guys on the team with more points last year were Bergy, Marchy and Pasta...think about that for a moment, Krug outscored everyone on the Bruins except for arguably the best line in hockey. You don't trade Krug unless you're getting an impact player back. Acquiring a young 40+ point forward (we have a ton of FWD prospect BTW) isn't a move that warrants Krug.
