Teams used to do big trades like this but then came the cap....1 year, not worth it for Toronto, bigger termed contract, can't fit in the cap system.

That's wayyyyy to much for 1 year of Karlsson... and Kapanen will probably end up being better than Duchene anyway.

Don't know why this team would"guarantee" a Leaf Cup. You replaced four starters with just two (admitting one is EK). Leafs are really stripped long term. Really a bad deal for the Leaf. Of course virtually all trades for EK are so one sided for Ottawa, this is just another.

4 starters? really who are they? You cannot be counting Liljegren and Borgman as starters.... The proposed lineup makes the Leafs and instant cup favourite .. no if's, and's or but's... I dislike the leafs but this trade would most likely bring them a cup. Maybe one of those 1st could be a second but honestly there isn't much lost that cannot be replaced both short and long term....

Pasha, say the trade is made and at the end of the season Karlsson and Duchene sign with another team, Toronto just lost everything in the trade. Also say Tavares or Karlsson has an injury, there goes the playoffs. There are no definates and there are lots of ifs ands or buts.
