Maybe, but It is hard to predict how go he is or if he will even come. hense why I think a 2020 1st should be add. But if Kaprizov is having a good KHL season again, I would downgrade that 1st 100%

Trading Plekanec after signing him as UFA is a bad look.

I'm not crowing him as the next Ovi however I do think Kaprizov will be a better player than Patches.

He could very well be one day. But he hasn't done jack in the NHL yet and he's being hailed as the second coming, by many. All Im saying is lets see how he pans out first. IMO Doubt he ever scores 30 goals in a season in his career. That may not mean much either but Pacioretty did 5 times and is still young enough to do it another 5 times.....

Watching him play, he was unreal in the Olympics and in the WC. He was almost PPG on CSKA this season. His hockey IQ is next level and his stick handling and play making is very good as well. He's not afraid to use the body or get in the corners if necessary. His only downside is that he's stuck in the KHL. He was only 2nd in points in the KHL as an 18 year old (behind Kuznetsov). He also captained Russia's WJC team in 16-17.

and that's why I think it's a fair deal. MTL is trading a proven commodity for a unproven commodity.

I think we really need to pump the breaks with him. Yes he was really good at the World jrs but the Olympics is nothing really. Do you know who also had a really good Oympics....Linus Omark, Derek Roy, and a bunch of random players. The KHL is nothing close to the NHL(example Vladimr Shipnovov guy that went to Vegas). He couldn't even make the expansion team when he was one of the best players in the KHL the prior season.

yea sure, he could be the next great goal scorer but he also could be Maxim Afinogenov.

So he's a lock to be worth more than a Pacioretty, whose a 5 time 30+ goal scorer and top 10 in the NHL in goal scoring the past 7 years combined?

Yeah I watched Kaprizov too but there have been a lot of other players to talk the talk and not be able to walk the walk in the NHL. I'll reserve judgement on this kid till I see him prove it. Frankly if he is stuck in the KHL for another two years, that contributes to his lack of value. Minny is losing the out on prime years of Kaprizov's career.

People made this exact argument with Kuznetsov too and now he's an elite center in the NHL. I'm very high on Kaprizov but I may be wrong, only time will tell.

The KHL is the 2nd best league in the world after the NHL. Producing in that league isn't that easy. Comparing Kaprizov to Derek Roy is brutal, I'm not solely basing my skill evaluations on point production.

Yeah and one thing we know for sure is if one player makes it, all players do right? rolling eyes

I agree time will tell and Im not opposed to Kaprizov becoming a star player one day but he hasn't proved it yet and he could also be a 10-20 goals scorer who plays a little PP and the teams 3rd line RW. Is he still better worth more than Pacioretty?

Kaprizov + a 1st for patches is a massive overpay. I'd say I'd value them right about the same. I'm not saying if 1 player makes it they all do but he's put up similar numbers to Kuzy so that's why I compared the two.

It's not a "Massive" over payment as we can both agree MTL is trading a 5 time 30 goal scorer who is 29 for a player who has good number in the KHL and has never played an NHL game. I could prove you a long list a players who have had good KHL numbers and have been marginal point producers in the NHL. Ill leave one example...Nail Yakupov.

You are right, kaprizov could be really good, but he also could go the way 90% of all KHL stars go when they come to the NHL. MTL is taking all the risk here.

A non lottery pick 1st and a prospect who won't play in the NHL till he's 24 who may be just as good as Pacioretty is now if he pans out is an over payment? Seems like its giving Karizov the benefit of the doubt while not giving Pacioretty, the proven commodity here, that same benefit.

Once again, Kaprizov may be a good player one day, or he may not. Its not a guarantee.
