Sorry but yikes, Montreal sure has some ugly contracts between Price, Weber and Petry while being in very tough shape standings wise. And yes, I am aware who I root for and their situation as well!!

Doesn't make the Leafs better in 2019/20. Leafs would interested in the first round pick though, but not much else, for what they are giving up.

Agreed. Don't see the major fascination there. He doesn't solve the long term problem on the left side. I also do not understand why all these "GMs" think that a rebuilding bottom 10 (possibly bottom 5) team is going to trade their upcoming 1st round pick.

Yes two old rivals can make a deal (hell they did it multiple times in the past few years) but this deal is not going to happen. Also 8x8 for Nylander? As bad as how Leaf fans value him.

Kadri is the 2nd best asset in that trade offer, the third best asset is the 1st round pick, leaving Nylander as the best asset in that trade. Centres are way more valuable than wingers (Kadri > Patches) and Nylander would immediately become Montreal's best player. Toronto isn't giving up the best 3rd line centre in hockey for an okay winger, a decent defenceman and a first.

Phil Danault is also part of the deal. The way I see it is that they end up getting #1 LW #1 RD #3 center 1st and 2nd with no conditions for their 2 better centers. I also don't agree that Kadri > Patches.

Hard no on this deal. Petry is not a #1 RHD, he's 3rd pairing on a lot of teams. He's good, don't get me wrong but he's no top defender. Patches is a winger, therefore he is less valuable than a centre who scores 30 goals. Really the past two season, Kadri has been far more valuable than Patches. Wingers are a dime a dozen. Watch Hymen score 50+ points this year which won't be far off from what Patches gets. Good centres make wingers look good. No need to waste resources on Patches who is older and far more expensive that the wingers the leafs have.

As for Danault, the guy will likely ask for over 4 million a season, Kadri makes 4.5 million a season. Why would Toronto essentially downgrade their top line winger position Nylander is better than Patches and vastly downgrade their 3rd line centre position Kadri is way better than Danault for Petry who is too old to be effective for the entirety of the window the Leafs will have with their young stars? All of that for a 1st round pick? Which would likely be a mid rounder since the trade greatly improves the Canadiens.

This is a terrible deal and one that doesn't make sense on basically any level.
