Description

Toying around when the time comes a year from now. Nylander trade allows for the top pairing right D that is needed. Hoping that some of these prospects turn out to fill out the bottom lines for cheap. Girardi is not necessarily the exact player but a right handed player that can do what Hainsey was asked. Trade Gardiner, Sparks, and Leivo for a team with space and a playoff push. Don't all need to be part of a package deal but roughly what could be returned. Overall I believe the cap situation will be pretty tight. Following that season however Marleau's contract will be up and likely a small yearly increase in the cap.

Nylander isnt going anywhere. They can afford to keep him, just need to get creative. In your post, Hortons cap hit still counts, so take 5.3M off the cap hit. I dont see the Blues trading Parayko bc their D will be weak and theres no reason to weaken the D when they just strengthed their C. So thats 5.5M in cap space which gives the Leafs a total of 10.8M in cap space which is enough to resign Nylander.

The Leafs defence isnt that bad. They were ranked 11 in GAA which isnt that bad. Their D improved with guys like JVR, Bozak. Polak gone. I really think they should bank on internal improvement.

Fair observation and I could totally see it happening. I appreciate the constructive feedback and not just bashing. The other thing too is there can totally be surprises in kids coming up and playing well. Which with the depth and AHL team we have is also totally foreseeable.
