For some reason, there are some Vancouver fans that just can't think of any team to trade Tanev too, hence the parade of horrid trades. Just my opinion, I think you gave too much to acquire Tanev also.

well the rumoured nylander trade for tanev first off is not just tavev. It was more coming from the canucks end like Tavev goldobin and a second for nylander making the trade fair and gives both teams pieces that they need. Or even retaining half of tanev salary and a second for nylander.

We could get a 1st + 3rd for Brown alone (he's better / younger / cheaper than Tatar & Tatar got a 1st + 2nd + 3rd....even though it was an over-pay).

If Brown + a 1st is in the package - than we better be going after guys like Pesce, Manson, Parayko, Montour, etc (young with lower / longer-term contracts).

The point of my trade is I'd rather giveup brown an AHL AHL dman and a late 1st than give up Nylander.

As a Leaf fan I would welcome a top four RHD. But a top four RHD on a bad team isn't necessarily a good RHD. Part time Tanev who might not be ready to start this season probably isn't wanted by many teams except at a discount. And Faulk slipped badly last season, he any better than what the Leaf have already?

I don't think this original ask (Brown, Rosen and 1st) is an overpay for Tanev at all, while I do agree that these trades on this site asking for Nylander for Tanev is a bit aggressive why do you think this is an overpay?

Like think about it for a second , you believe that a 3rd round pick (a late 3rd round pick also given how good the leafs will be) and a 25 year old "prospect" that hasn't broken into the NHL yet is a fair deal for a defensemen that you will slot into your top pairing and will be asked to be a top 2-3 defensemen on this team and be asked to play 20-25 minutes a night for you?

Furthermore, if you (and most of these other Maple Leafs fans on this thread) hold Tanev in such low regard why is he one of the main options you all go for in the attempt to strengthen your defense corp?

I do not understand everyone's obsession with trading for Tanev, he is a 4th/5th defenseman, and would not be top 4 on leafs even with the questionable strength of their defense, Rielly, Gardiner and Zaitsev are all better and would rather they switch Gardiner to off side to get more ice time for Dermott in top 4 than trade for Tanev

So the Leafs defence this year will be Reilly, Gardiner, Zaitev, Hainsey, Dermot...that's good. 6th/7th guy Borgman, Carrick. Ozhignov. Hardly worth trading much to get Tanev. Also having Tanev takes up 4.4m in cap next year when the Leafs might need the cap space.

Every fan base has their population who thinks a pile of scraps can translate into a useful asset. I think the sheer volume of Leaf fans on here leaves us more exposed to a higher number of these types of offers.

But I do agree with you...while I am not a Tanev fan nor do I care to see the Leafs trade for him, the Leafs aren't going to be able to pick him up without a 1st or 2nd rounder + a legit prospect or young (and desirable) roster player. I think the allure of Tanev to most is that, aside from being a right-shooting defenceman, there's this notion that he can be had for cheap....it's just not going to happen...especially since the Canucks never seem to commit to a re-build
