This. All signs point to Stastny staying in WPG, so I understand the need to entice him with huge $$. BUT - this is a price that absolutely handcuffs you on Provy/Knex/Simmer/Sanny.

There's plenty of cap space to re-sign all of those players. Simmonds is looking more and more likely not to be back. The team is trying to avoid having long-term deals carrying players into their mid 30's. Simmonds will be 30 when this coming season starts. Sanheim and Konecny may ultimately get bridge deals. The team will commit significantly to Provorov but that should be no problem. There's enough entry level deals coming that Stastny for 2 years isn't an issue. I'd prefer he be off in 2 years so there's no issue with re-signing Nolan Patrick.
