In my opinion any player that signs an 8 year deal will want upwards for 5.5 mill, so the morrissey deal would have to be either shorter term or more aav

I'm using Matt Cane's predictions, and research about salary cap. Empirically speaking, if you want to make the most money you can in an NHL career, you sign as many long-term and front loaded deals as possible, with wealthy enough markets to allocate the most money possible to signing bonuses. The Jets are absolutely wealthy enough. If Morrissey wants less term, that's fine, or if the jets don't want to give JoMo that big signing bonus, and less term is required to make the deal work, that's fine too.

Matt Canes' exact prediction comes out to something around 2mill for 1 year, but that doesn't help either party. He also predicts 4.15mill for 6 years, but that doesn't really take the concept of a front loaded contract to its logical conclusion.

Funny, since I've seen Sabres teams on here making a Stanley for Borgen deal. It's a LHD prospect with 2nd pairing upside for a RHD prospect with 2nd pairing upside. Dano for a 4th rounder is an overpayment for any perceived shortcomings with Borgen having played in the NCAA. (Personally I prefer NCAA dmen to CHL dmen, but that's preference.) Considering that any and every GM in the league would be happy if any of their picks after the 4th round turned into a solid NHLer. Getting a 23 year old with a respectable Points per game in the NHL for anything past a 3rd is a gift

Roslovic takes the 2C spot by Christmas.

I really think Kulikov will be traded (If he already hasn't been) and then Myers will play on his offside with buff.
    D pairings will look like:
    Morrissey - Trouba
    Myers - Buff
    Niku - Poolman
Therefore there will be no free agent signings like Hickey, but probably a cheap guy for under 1 million (like morrow - but not morrow himself because he was not given a QO)
Honestly, we shouldn't go for a RHD prospect because we have Green and we don't know how good Poolman is yet. We should wait until we know exactly what we have in those two.

I also like the idea of getting a RW but gagner is not the right player. Try pulling off a Petan for Scherback deal with MTL

Not sure why, we are short on RHD prospects not LHD prospects so it makes 0 sense.

I have Morrow on here, he is the 5th LHD. I have him on the moose to start the season. The Jets have a logjam at depth and personally I view Morrow and Chiarot pretty interchangeably. (I would go with Morrow, but I'm not the coach.)

Trade Mason and Myers for draft picks and you could sign Stastney to a 1 year large cap deal or to a longer, smaller deal with a few other moves next year.

I like the idea of Hickey coming to the peg. He is a lot like Morrisey, but he hasn't lived up to the first round choice. Jets do have a bunch of "OK" LD and Hickey adds to that group. Myers up with Buf makes sense and some 3rd pairing with the remaining guys like Morrow, Niku, Poolman and Chariot

Sounds like Stastny is in demand and I highly doubt he goes for a 1 year deal. Sounds like he'll get long term and big cap deal

I'd agree that Statsny will be in demand, and I'd argue that he isn't really worth anything more than Bryan Little money. Statny's on the record saying he liked it here, and he did move his family here the moment he was traded, but the Jets are much deeper at center than they get credit for. Lowry, Little, and Roslovic all put up top 6 numbers relative to their ice time.

Jack Roslovic has absolutely played himself into the 2C spot. His scoring rate relative to his ice time for a bottom 6 player last year with no PP time was absurdly good, like 1st line good. I'd go ahead and say that he deserves Statsny's old spot in front of and below the net on the 1st power play unit, unless they decide to go with Ehlers or Connor to have a left hand shot to take the puck from Wheels and center it for Scheifs. You add in how fast Roslovic is, and he would be a perfect fit to play with a guy like Ehlers.

So I'll preface this by saying I think Hickey would actually be an upgrade for our defense. I consider him and De Haan the best free agents that could possibly be signed for 2.5mill or less. He's an underrated defender, however that is 2.5mill of cap space I allocated to a free agent. If we don't sign him that opens up another 2.5mill to spend elsewhere. Also I don't want Statsny back for anything more than Bryan Little money for 1 year. Roslovic is on track to outplay him for that job before Christmas.

I think Appleton could be fine if the Jets can't get anyone, but they really are just a couple players away from having 4 of the scariest lines in hockey.

I like Gagner because he is by far the cheapest and he is a 2 year rental for pennies while we deal with a pretty turbulent 2019 summer. Scherbak will need a new deal next year and it's a gamble that he would make less and put up similar numbers to Gagner (30ish points). If not Gagner my other trade targets would be

-Coyle with 50% retained (this should be expensive, but Coyle has 2 years left and could be a good, cheap forward while we work through a turbulent 2019 summer)
    - Simmonds with 50% retained
-Staal with 50% retained bump (also expensive, and a 1 year rental that bumps Jackie down to the 3rd line)

If you decide not to go for Hickey, that opens options up some more, my only stipulation is that I want someone who will be off the books by next season and makes room for Appleton.
